Great news that I thought I would share...

I've been out of work since the middle of October but that will end next Monday. :TU:
I will be flying up to Washington state for a four day orientation with my new employer (at their expense) where they will hand me the keys to a brand new Freightliner for my exclusive use.
All I have to do is bring it back here and drag their trailers around the southern california area to and from warehouses and drop yards.
For those of you not familiar with the trucking industry, this is a "dream job" compared to the over-the-road driving.
Instead of being away and on the road for 10-14 days at a time and delivering to some of the most obscure of places (like I used to be doing) I will only have to work a normal 5 day week, I will have my weekends off, and most importantly, I will finally get to sleep in my own bed EVERY night.
At last I will have the free time to enjoy my Buicks again! :beer

I'm even considering purchasing a certain other super Wildcat that I've heard about but have been putting off getting since I was laid off. :Brow:
I'm sure my neighbors would prefer another car on the street in front of my house much more than they would the semi that they used to complain about.
That will be parked at the yard from now on.

    Hey Colin,
If you read this then get a hold of me either by e-mail or a PM.
I may want to ask for your help once I have my but up in Washington state. :TU:

Is Jubitz still in business up that way?

    Re: Happy Motoring

I've never heard of Jubitz. Who are they?
The outfit that I'll be working for is based in Pacific, Wa. with yards in Turloc and Chino, California.
I only have to go up to headquarters to pick up my truck and bring it down here.
I will be running local pick-up and delivery in the southern California area, where summer is NEVER out of reach. :bglasses:

    Robert,

Congrates, on the new job as a son of an ex long haul driver. I understand the tolls the long runs can put on you. I bet the short hauls are a welcome blessing. Again congratulations

Well I'll certainly look for it when I wheel into Portland on my way back down here. :TU:
I don't carry one of those chain drive "trucker" wallets.
In fact, I don't think that I even fit the trucker stereotype.
I prefer hot rod T-shirts, shorts and tennis shoes to plaid flannels, Levis and boots.:gt:

    I hope so too.

    Perhaps I should've explained what I meant by P/D a little better.
Supposedly I will be trading emty trailers from the company drop yard for loaded trailers at customer warehouses then dropping the loaded trailers back at the company drop yard or simply moving the emtys from one customer to the next.
Some people might call that something else like "trailer spotting" but I was trying to put it into the simplest of terms.
They have even said the majority of the stuff is drop/hook.
I'm sure that there will be times when I will have to bump a dock and wait while getting loaded.
Loading/unloading them myself is something that I won't have to do.
I have already told them that I'm allergec to freight and can't touch it. :gt:
Since I will be getting hourly pay and not mileage pay anymore, that's OK with me though if I spend a lot of time waiting because that won't affect my paycheck anymore.
I could spend the whole day down at the harbor waiting in line on a container to get dropped on a chassis and I'll make the same amount as if I drove all day. :Brow:

Believe me when I tell you that I've had my share of "the run around" from trucking companies and recruiters.
If there's one thing that I won't tolerate it's the lies to the drivers that are so pervasive in this industry. :spank:
If that happens then I will be giving them their truck back, and in a hurry too! :af:
