Hey, I'm looking for the ignition actuator gear for my buick skylark 72 with tillt wheel steering. Its one with 6 teeth like on the picture... in all the shops it is out of order. I realy need it its my daily driver... https://www.ss396.com/chevelle/ICG-...0YI69zC2xDdcc1eJpp8mZsXB3-eOr1fIaAsPwEALw_wcB Thank you in advance
Clearly made in China, but, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Steering-C...569845?hash=item565c3b2e75:g:kCEAAOSw0m1c~-D7 Only has 5 teeth though.
That's more commonly called a sector gear if you are still on the hunt. Tilt and non tilt differ. At least 69-73 should fit maybe later.
I guess the 6 tooth ones are like Hens teeth. 150.00? https://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-STEERIN...666854?hash=item59221194a6:g:XfcAAOSwF3Vcf0kf This one looks like it has 7 or 8 teeth, https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1987-...630449?hash=item287b7003f1:g:eIEAAOSwaAtcrsrz
Right Larry, they are not as common. Dorman repro's the other one. It's hard to get somebody to sell that one piece off a tilt unless they build or part them. I've worked on a lot of columns and never seen a broken one, actually.
Found out the hard way on an A body; earlier somebody put in a 5 teeth sector gear on a 7 tooth rack gear (or the other way around) in a (year unknown) tilt floor column.... wearing out the rack gear. Now not knowing what to choose: a 5/6 or 6/7 combination
I bought a few of the 6-tooth sector gears 2 months ago. About $50.00 each. I also found that Dorman sells a slide/sector gear kit. The Dorman kit has a 5-tooth sector gear, but they redesigned the teeth on the slide to accommodate. I bought a few of those kits as well, and they will work.
Here to say - dont cheap out on this. the 6-7 tooth set is generally 150.00 wherever you find it. Did two columns over the last couple years and the while the 5-6 gear set works I had to give up accessory position on one of the columns...
You cant use that rack on the 69-72 tilt columns. Thats a later model rack. The earlier racks are different.
One of the Chevelle vendors has the original 6-tooth sector gear. It was either SS396.com or classic performance. Maybe both. The ones I got are spot on to my originals.
