    Here is the HEI location.

It does make it a tad tricky to get the cap on & off. You have to be carefull.

That latch is tucked up underneath that thing, isn't it?

John Osborne just did my distributor up with the Crane XRI and curved it, and I believe the cost was around $150. The module sits inside where the points say at, and it uses tha shaft cam lobes. The only difference from the stock look, is 2 wires exit a mesh harness for connectivity. One is for power to the module and the other is the trigger from the coil. Like I mentioned earlier, the Crane has an adjustable rev limiter also.

I am sure this setup would work very nice also, but if you are concerned about the module being in the way and visable, this would be an option.

I figured I would chime that data in.

So the Crane XRi uses an external (ie--not part of the dist cap) coil also?

On the pic that Dan Healey posted---that is the "external mounting" that I mentioned---that distributor body does not have the internal structure that allows room to put the unit inside. If you are not concerned about matching numbers you can go get another distributor body with the more open internal structure and have Dave do that one.....if getting all the HEI "guts" inside the body is a concern for you. I will try to snap a pic of the two different distributor "internals" so people can compare it to theirs. Dave explained it to me on the phone.

    Daves HEI conversion :TU:
Worth every dime of the $175.

Something else to consider here guys. Dave's HEI conversion, uses the exact same magnetic trigger/pickup (MSD), as his MSD magnetic trigger conversion. With the HEI, it triggers the module. If at some later date, you decide you would like to trigger an MSD, or any other box for that matter, it is a simple matter to disconnect the leads to the module, remove it, and solder/crimp-on, an MSD connector(available at Jegs/Summit or any speed shop). You can then plug right into the box. Yardley originally had the HEI conversion. He now runs a 6AL. Ask him, it was easy. Here's a picture of the magnetic trigger conversion.

The Crane system uses a coil like a stock points system, and will connect to any spark system you like. I am using the MSD Blaster coli and could use a 6A box if I wanted. I am not trying to knock Daves setup, so please do not think I am trying to keep anyone from his system. I believe this system is easily done by a novice person by themself if they desire to.

Needless to say, I am sure they both are better than standard points for accuracy.
