For some reason, I cannot get the key out of the ignition. It turns to start; but, I cannot get it back to lock and/or accessory. Any advice? I am going to need new locks throughout.

I would check the actual ignition switch on the column where the rod connects (the one where the wires connect). If this switch is malfunctioning, it will keep the key from turning. You can eliminate which switch is bad, meaning the one where the key goes in or the one mounted on top of the column. If it is an original switch down the bottom it could be dry (lubricant wise) and it could be binding. Just a suggestion. If you can disconnect the rod from the switch you can see if the key turns. If it does than you can eliminate one or the other.

First, make sure your lock-out rod is properly adjusted.
Rotate the key as you would to shut off the engine. If key does not come out, use your left hand to grab the lower collar(rotates below speedo) and rotate the collar counter-clockwise......now see if the key rotates further back. If so, you need to get under the car and raise the rod that goes from the column lock-out arm to the frame rail.

If the above does not work, your ignition switch may be bad or your gear on the end of the ignition switch thru-lever may be bad. See the article on our site about Tilt Steering Column Wobble. That will show the plastic gear and metal rack on the left side of the column. The rack is connected to the rod that goes to the ignition switch.

Thanks guys; I must have moved the rod slightly. It is fixed.
