I bought a moroso curve kit for my points dist in my 70 455 and read the instructions. They have an advance chart to set it up. My question is if the chart advance would be in addition to initial advance or if it refers to total advance?

i believe that chart is the total adv. initial is what you have at idle. mild 455s like 12-14 initial, and 32-36 total, total in at 2000-2500 rpm, try different spring combos to get it right.

One more thing, you want more advance as your altitude increases. Up at 3500' Calgary elevation I honestly get the best idle with 18* initial!

How are the springs in that Moroso kit, and does the chart look like you can get all your advance in by 2500 RPM? The best spring kit I've ever used comes with the Crane adjustable vacuum advance.

There are 3 different sets of springs and a bushing. You remove a plastic bushing and replace it with a brass one. The shop I went to only had an adjustable vac ad fo HEI.

What's the advance chart look like? Can you post a picture of it or scan it/ Just curious what the rate is like. The Crane adjustable vacuum advance for a points distributor is part # 270-99601-1, available from JEGS for 22.99. It comes with some sweet springs that allow you to get your advance in from 1600 -3200 by mixing springs.

Do yourself a favor and have someone curve the distributor. Those kits are impossible. Get a guy with a good distributor machine and the car will run so much better. If you can't find anyone, let me know. I have a guy in CT. that does it for me.

you also need to mark your balancer if your not useing a timming light that has an adjustment. i just mix springs, and even have tweaked them a little and never went by the chart, never had eney problems, just get your roter and cap back on right each adjustment, i dont think it takes more then a 1/2 hour. also
