If you are using one of these type air cleaner bases - stop, and throw it away

It's the exact same squared off with notched wings shaped base as in the first pic that gave bad results. There was not even a lid involved. It's the vertical airflow entry into the carb that causes the issue, lid height relative to the carb top is another additional (potentially bad) issue

So a 3 or 4 inch filter should resolve that issue

I see what you're saying but wouldn't the Tornado top section change the airflow dynamics essentially helping it flow better? I agree the base is virtually the same but since the Tornado section is on it it's NOT exactly the same as the one that gave bad results. Have you tested one of these Tornado bases? Do you have recorded results like the others? Does it gain or hurt airflow or performance Those were my questions in my first post. I am not a professional airflow guy like you and I wont pretend to be or pretend to know much about this at all, I'm just curious as all. I'm currently running a Star wars air cleaner which I have no idea if its helping or hurting my airflow. I have asked a few times in this thread if anyone has tested that one also.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I found about a total of 30hp increase by sticking magnets on the exhaust pipes in 1 foot intervals, but I found you have to make sure they have the south pole orientation face forward, and the north face the rear or you will get a rough running engine.

It loses about 3% when I am heading west, and actually picks up 4% if I head east, and that is due to the Corrola S effect. Thanks, Toyota!

Picked up the Stef's B&B unit #72200 out of Summit. Question posted there claimed it measured 3.8" tall from carb lip to top of dome with a 3" filter, but it's not; it's 2 7/8". I'll have somewhere between 2.75 and 3.25 (front clip is off), so I think it'll work out. Solid piece.

Will that L88 base work with a Quadrajet, and SP1?
