If Ta Performance wont make us head gaskets will they make us Alum heads?

    I don't know what mylar sealant is, but I wonder how that would work with Permetex's "Right Stuff" sealant? If you get it in the caulking tube (not the cheeze whiz can) it's pretty darned good sealant.

    maybe you could get fel pro to mod the v6 gasket i think the 1000
    you could contact rjc racing (turbo buick guys) rjcracing.com
    the have reproduced the turbo v6 steel shim head gaskets
    and they do make billet v6 block girdles so it would just make sense
    for them to aleast give a try on both

    That sounds like the best bet. I use receiver grooves cut in the heads that match up with the O-ring, and I've yet to blow a gasket using .040 copper. (although it did eat an .020 copper gasket, too thin!!!)

    So can you give me details on your 0-ring tool and how to cut the reciever groove in the heads? I'm using a crane cams O-ring tool (groovomatic).

    A local machine shop did it. I guess they used a mill to cut the grooves in the heads.

    It's a small shop he runs in his backyard, and he's reluctant to give out his phone number or he'd never get anything done for the phone ringing. I haven't been there in a long time, but i need to build an engine or two (or 3 or 4!!). If I find out the details I'll post them here.

    A regular, stock head gasket will hold that all day long in a GN engine if it's tuned right, 350 should have no problem following suit. I used to run 21 lbs on straight 93 pump gas. If cylinder pressures get high enough to blow the fire ring out of a gasket, I'd rather replace the gasket than let it keep running and hammer the snot out of the rotating assembly. A problem that some have had in the GN world with Cometic gaskets is that they don't blow out the fire ring after severe detonation, they get pinholes in them. Since the gasket isn't completely blown, you won't find out until the combustion pressure "blowtorches" a channel in the block or head, then you need to spend some $$$. I might be the only one who sees it this way, but I don't think head gaskets are the key to making the 350 engines take boost. A good tune and a correct combo should be enough, the head gasket can be the "fuse" if something goes wrong(lean condition, too much timing, not enough octane).

    Artie, this is the kind of input we need! I really apreciate everyones thoughts about this.

    To support your theory Mark has been running stock type gaskets (not steel shim even) and Cast pistons without issue and its his daily driver!

    The sensors and Megasquirt computer Jeramie is building me will help monitor and data log any issues that may cause damage so that will help as well once we have that setup with the front mounted MPFI intake Mark is building me!

    I have some plans in place for the 350 turbo setup, I'll be going with a Big Stuff 3 as I'm more familiar with the tuning. Make sure you run a knock sensor, biggest issue will be finding a location that gives the best harmonics. 231s have a boss cast in right behind the intake, might be too far away from the front 2 cylinders on a 350 in that location. I'm trying to find the right crank trigger, as I plan on DIS as well. The FAST E-Dist is looking promising for coil on plug operation too:cool:

    Yeah I'll have to chat with Jeramie about the knock sensor location but we already have planned to use one...

    We are having some heads ported especially for boost and especially making sure the exhaust side flows VERY WELL. I did a lot of extra work on the exhaust side of the heads I just ported and I think it rewarded well even without the turbos since it dynod higher than I expected it would NA considering the mild cam. Heck, I was pleased as a peach when we got it to pull 398 hp at 5600 rpm! Bill has warned about the need for extensive work on the exhaust valves when boosting over 10 psi. Mark and others on the board have proved at under 10 psi we can run bone stock engines and have smooth idles and almost double the stock rated HP, not the mension the torque these things are capable of!

    Go twin Turbo Buick 350 movement!
