I pick up the Truck Paper at rest stops on the PA turnpike . Its amazing the miles on some of these . Lowest miles I see are like 350,000 and I have seen some advertized with 1,943,000 on them mostly 1990's vehicles . with prices right around your $30,000
I wouldn’t mind, heck I’d expect all that. BUT I’d have to learn how to drive it, then work on it, I know my tools ain’t big enough
Pete 389 coming to an end right now https://www.truckinwithkermie.com/blog/the-end-of-the-peterbilt-389
As with farm tractors, the pre DEF trucks are commanding a premium. Emission stuff on newer things gets to be a real problem to deal with.
Buy one with a taller stand-up sleeper. So much easier when you have to put on your clothes in the morning or when you have to change your bedding.
250000 miles a year? That's almost 685 miles per day, working 365 days a year. But, you also have to do your resets. And stuff like pre trips, loading/ unloading, fueling, scaling, weigh stations, DOT inspections, traffic jams and breaking down are all interfering with your daily maximum hours.
I’m sure I’ll never own one of these beautiful beasts, but it’s bothered me about them having to comply with emission regulations, WHY???? These beasts deliver the goods, cut ‘em some slack for crying out loud! The DEF has got to be the dumbest thing I’ve heard of, THESE BIG RIGS WORK AND WORK HARD!!!! Having to add DEF is like humans having to take a pill or something to filter their farts.
Many years ago Gulf Oil in Boston had a bunch of unusual Kenworths; their maintenance schedule called for an engine overhaul at 1,000,000 miles. Most of them made it.
There is such a thing as "IN FRAME " and "OUT OF FRAME " , Overhauls . Not many make it to the 1,000,000 mark unless they are a "REAL CROSS COUNTRY " truck . I've seen many barely make it to the 200,000 mark in a local situation .
Check out my buddies k wop he did the old school stripes KW starting to look better than Pete's lately
