My four-year-old pool heater decided that it wasn't going to work about three weeks ago. The compressor motor would hum and then stop doing anything. Every five minutes or so it would repeat the process. I assumed that either the compressor or the motor itself had locked up. It took ten days to get a factory service tech out to look at it. It turned out to be the starting capacitor on the motor. The parts are still on warranty, but the labor and service call are not. I had visions of a bad compressor and a second service call when he came back with one. I got out of it for $165 and soon will have a warmer pool. I do a few laps every day, so I swam anyway, but a couple of days were pretty cool.

Good one John! I never win anything. I won the pool for the Daytona 500 race a month ago. I just stood here shaking my head going what the hell? I never win anything! I think it was the very last lap they had a gigantic crash and the car that I had picked made it to the lead and over the finish line in I think .006 seconds! Glad you won buddy!

It was also the first thing that the service tech said as he got out of the truck. I would not have replaced it myself even if I had known what the problem was. The heater is still under warranty for parts, and I'm afraid that if I went into it, they might void the warranty. Also, the damn Mosquitoes were awful yesterday. I gave the tech two cans of spray - one a flying insect killer and the other Deep Woods Off. He earned his money.
