I was wondering how much would it cost me to have posi installed onto my 68 buick riviera so i can get the power of the 455 to the pavement quicker...now i know im not gonna find a donor car and i have been looking...so if i order all the parts what unit will be rhe best and not to expensive? By the way i live in st paul mn so i would use a shop around here and wonder how much should i expect to be charged?

Sorry to say it, but there are no aftermarket posi carriers or gearsets available. You'll have to find a donor carrier and possibly gears from a '67-'70 Wildcat, Electra or Riviera. Keep in mind the ratios up to 3.07:1 use a different carrier than 3.42:1 and up numerically.

Fowler Auto Parts in Griffin, GA has a rusty old 1970 posi out of a 1970 Riv GS. Its rusty and will need a complete rebuild, but I bet you could get it for $100 + shipping. Maybe he will sell you just the center section. He's open Thursday through Saturday. The number to call is 770-412-9991.

    Good luck.

Have you considered installing a Lock-Rite locker into your open carrier?

They don't have an application that covers the '67 - '70 9.375" carriers, only the '71-'75. The two designs are incompatible with each other.

It took me a long time to find a 3.42:1 carrier and gears for my '67, but I came across a posi for my current 3.07:1 setup within a few months of posting here in "parts wanted" and keeping an eye on ebay.

i also want to put a posi on my 68 skylark . i herd that you have to do the hole rear end out of a later car . would you mind letting me know what you come up with

The rear end he needs for his Riviera is a world apart from what you will need for your Skylark.
You have it easy in comparison. Really.
I would suggest you do a search, or start a new thread. :TU:

Contact Jim (monzaz is his V8Buick.com username): http://www.v8buick.com/member.php?u=3880

Bearings are available, but the original posi clutches are not. He has come up with possible clutch substitutions, though. I don't know anyone who would be better able to take care of you than him.

Hate to say it, but I might've misspoken. One part of their site shows the listing for the later 9.375", but the page I just found does not show an application for that rear axle either:

That 71-75 is a 'O' type 9.3 rear 12 bolt cover with 12 bolt guts 31 spline axles.

That will fill in your blanks. :) Jim

THE Buick 9.3 ended in 1970-

I do not even know where they came up with the 8.2 in the riv for 65-70...??? That is wrong should be for the LeSabre maybe..??? lol :) Jim

BOY that whole chart is for CRAP!

look they have 12 bolt chevy 30 spline rear 1910 unit in for 1977 century..??? RIGHT???
    and 1977 -78 rivera...??? AGAIN what the ... ?
    Chevy c-clip 12 bolt 30 spline ended 1972

ALL other rears full size or mid size went to 28 or 31 spline after 1973
