Ive been dripping oil for a while now, not a ton but enough to be anoying, and i thought It was a rear main leak but now im thinking it might be something from the front of the tranny. My oil pressure has always been good and oil level never low and the spots on the ground looked brown in color so i just assumed, rear main.

I last drove the car on saturday and today I noticed a BIG puddle underneith the car. I tried to chech the fluid color and it was hard to tell what color it was but it looked more blue than brown, im using B&M trans fluid and its a blue color. I didnt have time to check the oil or warm up the car to check the trans fluid but im almost positive its not oil. It seemes to be leaking from the inspection cover. What seal could be leaking? Would a front seal on the tranny leak this much while its not running? Could the Torque converter be leaking? I dont think its the tranny pan seal because its new and i havent noticed it leaking.

Sounds to me like the front pump seal on your transmission has gone bad. It's a lot work to deal with for a small part. You have to remove the tranmission to get access to it because it's behind the torque converter in the pump. The leak will be obvious at that point. Collapse the seal, have the new one at hand with a little sealant around the outside. Tap it in the recess evenly until seated. That's it. Had to do this with my car a while ago. Good luck. John. :)

yeahh thats what I was thinking, front seal. when I had the tranny on the stand last year i dont think i replaced the frot seal, it was either i got the wrong part, couldnt get the part that day or just looked like a pain in the a$$ to change. I dont remember.. :Dou:

The front seal would leak this bad even when its not running?
Do i have to take the front pump off to change the seal?
If so, are there any other parts to change to be safe and what pre-cautions should i take? like springs or something flying out.
Ive got to take the tranny out soon anyway to upgrade to a higher stall converter anyway so ill just wait till then.

Also, has anyone heard of a "GER" brand torque converter? any good?

Front seals usually leak more when the engine is running. If it's bad enough, oil gets slung all up inside the bellhousing and dust cover. When you park, it'll drain down, pool up and drip out. Another area to investigate is around the perimeter of the front pump. It's sealed with a large o-ring and a paper gasket. Also, the front pump mounting bolts can leak if loosened as they have a rubber coated washer under the head to seal.

You don't need to remove the front pump to replace the oil seal. Just collapse and remove.

GER converters? Ummm, no comment. :pp

something else to consider is where the dipstick tube goes into the case. the o-ring there dries out. i have that problem now with my th350. and when it sits the torque converter drains into the pan and overfills it and then procedes to come out of the dipstick hole and onto the ground.
