    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

I think you can use the 455 Buick GS mounts from a 70-2 Skylark.

The old diesel Chevy trucks used the Olds engines.

If there is nothing wrong with your Olds 455 I would use it.

Olds makes a good 455 and is very comparable to the Buick 455.

its a 1979 chevy truck C-10 was a stock diesel and was converted be some old guy that killed himself in it. no joke. so i am going to drop the oil later today. and take it down to a shop in town. cause the guy i was with last tiume i drove it said i had rear main thqat was leaky, so i checked tranny fluid was good. he also said i mit have spun a rod bearing, and i dont here any knocking. but i do have small metal shaveings in the oil. so not sure what that was from. but i did free rev it pretty good, from shifting from 2nd to 3rd and missed it and hit Nuetral, so not sure if that is from that. but when i put it in Nuetral any give it some gasthere is a knock but when i put it in drive, and give it gas it stops knocking, so i think it could be a cracked flywheel, i heard that they were kind weak for all the torque these motors have. so that is my story on that if any one has any thoughts on that it wold be great. thanks

Sounds like a bitchin truck! That sounds like it could well be the problem. The trouble with the diesels from the late seventies early eighties area is that they vibrated so much that cracked flywheels were the result. Seems to be a good place to start. :TU:

I installed a 430 in a 78 1/2 ton Chevy and I used the motor mounts and frame pads from any year model electra with the big block. I bolted the frame pads to the engine mounts and set the engine in. After I got the tranny where I wanted it and bolted down I leveled the motor by the valve covers and then welded the frame pads to the frame. If there is no welder available then you can try marking the pads, removing the engine and then drilling and bolting it in.

    Good luck.

ah, what is a 430,sorry not sure I now. i have a tranny mounted in the truck that will work with the buick, so i should look for a set electra any years better then others.

The 430 was built from 67 to 69 just before the 455 came out. They are exactly alike except for a smaller bore. The heads, crank, rods, intake, etc. will all interchange. And there was also the 400 which is the same except for a even smaller bore.

It shouldn't make any difference which year electra or skylark just as long as it had a big block in it.

Welding them in my be a little back yard, but I am from the south!
