I am having a 1971 Buick 8.5 10 bolt built for my Stage1. The cover on the core is in bad shape. I'd like to get another one. Does anyone sell new ones? I thought abour the TA Performance girdled ones, but I'd like it to look stock back there.

I have a cover off my 8.2 open. Will it work? If so you can have it.

I think the covers are the same. Coming to the Spring meet?

  4. Yeah I'll be there. I think I'm going to Atco next week too. Find out if they are the same, and I'll bring it if you're going to Atco.

The TA cover fits both 8.2 and 8.5, so they must be the same. I'll be at Atco:TU: Thanks Paul, you're OK, I don't care what Dave says about you:laugh:

  6. Believe me I don't care what he says either. He's gay.

Well, Murphy's law strikes again:af: I received a TA Performance cover for my new 8.5 10 bolt rear today. I ordered it from a guy on E-bay. Unfortunately, it does not fit. I ordered the TA 1808 for the BOP 8.5 10 bolt. The bolt pattern is definitely different, not by much, but different. It says in the TA catalog, that Buick started using chevy center sections in 1971. My rear is from a 1971 GS350. Oh well, I'll just sell the cover and order the right one from the same guy on E-bay.:Do No:

Larry, just looking in the TA Cataloge, so the correct cover for your 10 bolt would be the 1807? (Chev)

Yes, I believe so. It's definitely an 8.5 10 bolt. There are only 2 covers not counting the low profile chevy

Many times the aftermarket round covers are designed for 8.2 Chevy 10 bolt rears.

The most common '71-72 8.5 A-body rear has the big square casting "lugs" on the bottom of the housing at 8 & 4 o'clock & always uses the cutout style rear cover & A9 axle bearings.

There were also the two less common style '71-72 8.5 A-body housings which used a round rear cover.
These two housing versions were split between an 8.5 A-body housing which had axles with A9 axle bearings, & the style with axles which carried larger A10 axle bearings. Neither of these two "round cover" '71-72 8.5 A-body housings had big square lugs on the bottom.

Rather not run the gaudy looking alum rear covers, or don't have room like with a transverse mounted high flow muffler in an F-body, buy a steel lh cap, & have it fitted when rear is built.

    Got Posi?
