I lose IQ points every time I'm on Craig's List just reading some people's terribly worded ads. Yikes! I hate selling cars for the above reason!
When looking for a car for my son, I found a great percentage of sellers on Craigslist don't even respond to emails regarding the ads. I wasn't asking stupid questions either, just that I am interested, and when would be a good time to take a look at the car. These were fresh ads that had been posted within a day or 2 of my inquiry. :blast: I ended up just selling him my '92 Park Ave. when I found a '96 Riviera on Craigslist that had a responsive seller. .
Hilarious conversations. What does "donked" mean? I got tired of paying my ebay fees. So I got a racingjunk account & also tried craigslist. I have yet to sell one thing on either. Went back to ebay.
I've had a lot of good luck with craigslist. You get a lot of flakes, but I've bought and sold cars I think about 9 times in the last 6 montsh on there. Found some other good deals in that time too, just that I only get to buy one at a time when I go shopping. Bought and sold quite a few others over time too. Just got to remember that no matter what they say, they probably wont show up, and they don't have the money for the car unless you see American green backs. Worked my way up to the GS that I have now buying and selling there. Now I have to get seed money to build up to the next project!
I'll show ya- I think this one's a 4 door cutlass... <a href="http://www.imagehosting.com/"><img src="http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7922/donk1ye5.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosting"></a> This is a typical donk victim- chevy caprice... <a href="http://www.imagehosting.com/"><img src="http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9397/donk2fj5.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosting"></a> And, this is just wrong... <a href="http://www.imagehosting.com/"><img src="http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7158/donk3kz2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosting"></a>
Sounds like a couple of photos in your ad and a mention that the car was in primer could have saved you about 15 IQ points. Probably wouldn't have stopped the engine and tranny guy from calling, but should have stopped the other two. I know it would have kept me from sending any emails........ Typically the more info that is included in the ad, the better the quality of the responses. Just my experience from buying and selling (and helping others) on CL succesfully for years. 1971 Buick GS 455 auto(real)N-25 car (documented) numbers matching motor (out of car) 450hp new engine (in car) Runs great, drive anywhere, great interior- too many extras to list. Yeah, one time someone pulled into my driveway trying to sell something. Said he was interested in my 72 chevelle, along with that the 66 buick the 46 coupe, 71 GMC, wifes taurus, my dodge pickup and the 79 Malibu was in the driveway also. The guy proceeded to argue with me saying the car wasn't a Chevelle it was a Malibu. I tried explaining to him that the "Malibu" was an option for the chevelle as is Super Sport. He said the car wasn't worth the money because it wasn't a true Chevelle. I looked around the back yard at all the vehicles and asked him if he thought I aquired all those f****ng cars this morning? He left still thinking I was wrong but thats why I don't sell anything. I hate dealing with stupid people. :TU:
I should have made it more clear that I was making fun of this style... I hate it with a passion... when I lived in NC, I couldn't find a decent nice old caprice, regal, monte carlo, anything... all the little ghetto car dealers have lots full of beautiful 80's B and G bodies but they want crazy money and they get it... because those sweet stockers wind up like this... ugh. There was a guy down the street from me with a '74 impala jacked up like this... difference was if the car wasn't jacked up and rolling on HUGE rims it would be bad a$$- it was candy apple red with a black stock interior, clean as can be, and had a 572 BBC... damn thing ran like a raped ape... I also used to see a black 4 door electra that needed some TLC, jacked up sky high with huge wheels on it driving around once in a while... what a terrible style... a great way to RUIN great cars....
Ya know...you may be right. This is the first car I've ever attempted to sell. In the past people just see the cars I've built, ask if they can test drive them, and buy them on the spot. A good recommendation. I'll definitely put some thought into that.:TU: Or.......maybe I'm looking for that guy that knows what the car is, really doesn't care that its 3 different colors...because he's gonna go all the way through it himself....and ask pertinent questions, showing that he has enough common sense to know the difference between a GS and a Cutlass. The ad I put out is going to get 1 of 2 responses...dumbasses...(I talked to 3 of them)...and that one guy that really wants this car, will finish it, and enjoy it. That being said....I think I'll just keep it....:idea2:
I forgot to add DONK: is 77 and below, BOX also known as a ham sanwhich: is 78-89 caprice, delta, lesabre, bonnivilles, etc. BUBBLE: 90-96 impala, caprice, roadmaster, etc. MONTE CALO: is all G Bodies. I don't know how many times I've been asked how many stacks for the monte carlo, refering to my Malibuou: Hope you guys enjoy the pics!
Sounds like you are right about there being a lot of dumbasses involved in this deal one way or another, no doubt about it!
Thx Chris- We'll have to laugh about this over a beer or two at Barnaby's when i move up there next summer.
sounds good, but we can probably find somewhere better than Barnaby's.:beer Were are you getting transferred to, McChord?
