I found some more numbers cast into the pumpkin 8969277 nf and GM62 This axle has bin fighting every since i started taking it out, nearly broke my arm and now its out and theres nothing stamped into the axle tubes. WHAT NOW? HELP PLEASE!

well hears the diff. the cover is smooth by the way no ridge or any notches. I checked the pinion nut and it is 1 and 1/16 sized.
I'm not looking for yr mk and mod I just need to know if it is an 8.2 or a 8.5. I did a lot of looking around an FINALLY found out its from a 70-72 chevelle, from the casting numbers.
The lack of the casted ears at the 5 and 7 o'clock position of the housing may point towards the 8.2 variety.I'll bet Monzaz can tell you for shure with the picture.
R the housing covers interchangable between the 8.2 and the 8.5 cuz the 1 i have is smooth withOUT a ridge. or notches.

The round housing covers are interchangeable between the chevy 8.2 and the 10 bolt 8.5, Yes... The notched cover (8.5 10 bolt) ONLY fits the Notched 8.5 10 bolt casting. The round cover 8.2 CHEVY or 8.5 WILL fit the notched casting rear. Jim
