I just do not care if rain is in the forecast is what I told my wife Friday. After the past 2 weeks of canceling going to a car show because of the forecast and then only one did it rain very early in the morning.

So Saturday morning we get ready and head out to the Waterford Mi Elk's club car show. We stopped for breakfast on the north side of Waterford hill. It started to rain as we left the resturant, rained all the way up to the top of the hill but stopped on the south side about 5 miles before the show grounds.

We were to first to get there to register, Lady told us we could park any place out there. We picked a spot along the tree line (N Vets know what they are.) and I got about polishing the wheels first then blacking the tires includeing the tread (that does count too I have found) Then the Lucas Mist shine came out (great stuff and easy) start on the left side trunk and worked to the front, around to the right side across the back and down both sides.

Pull out the windex because I had left the Armor All window wipes in my truck DARN. Great for windows and no streaking or going back over them with a micro fiber to polish them.

I was about done when 3 other cars show up, they park far away like I had the plague. Soon four more show up and again they park away from us along the tree line. i tell Kare maybe where we parked is for the over flow so move to where the last four had parked. Nice people all for of the guys were Nam vets too although well after I had came home.

they were amazed when Noon rolled around and only 17 cars and a single pick up showed up. Said last year there were over 100 cars and trucks there. By noon it didn't even look like rain in the sky and the humidity rose also.

So first off they announced that we had gotten a prize for being there first, 2 T shirts, Ads for Southern Motors but Never the less prizes.

Then they started drawing door prizes with driver number tickets as a group desended on the cars judgeing them. We had our drivers number called about 5th believe. Won a Multi tool key chain, a multi meter (DVOM) and a 32 piece screw driver set.

We went and ate lunch at their lunch counter, They were out of burgers but had some real good brats with sides of baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and a bag o chips for $5.00.

We finished lunch and walked back to the car and I tell Kare I want to go look at and talk to the guy with the pick up a 62 Ford 1/2 ton. He tells me that it is his daily summer time driver but in the last couple years been picky what days he drives it.

They started announceing the top 10 winners in no special order the anouncer said.
They called our name and car so I walk up and get our top ten award.
Some left before I could get their picture.

Congratulations! You just never know what kind of turnout there will be. I must have had 12 car show flyers placed in my car at the last show I attended. You can't attend them all.

We get those flyers at most shows also. No you can not attend them all so you need to set some sort of criteria to chose which ones you attend.

    (1. We like close to home first.

    (2. We also figure in the registration fee and where the money goes. One show we attend the money goes to Make a Wish.

    (3. Who is the host for the show. Lots of Church shows, many have bad reps for preaching to you.

    (4. Is it held on a asphalt paved lot, concrete dirt of grass. Asphalt is bad on a real hot day, you bake sitting there.

    (5. past experince. Is it the good old boy system where the locals get the hard ware? Been there, Twice so far. RNY.

For me show venue is the deciding factor when choosing a event. Done over 100 shows in the last 8 years. About over the parking lot show unless Im invited as part of a group of friends. Like parks or grass fields as long as it hasn't rained in a few days. Attractions in and near the show field are always a +. Will chose a judged shoe over participant voting every time. We've also been to shows where its always the local good ole boys voting for each others cars.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

The worst one are when "the good ol' boys" are hosting the show, or its a benefit for one of their own, and they take all the trophies. Trophy isn't that important to us, but it's total BS for that to be allowed. There was a club, in our vicinity, that pulled that crap all the time. People quit attending their events. I called them on it as well. Host's cars should be display only.

One of the larger clubs in Valdosta only display the members cars at thy're shows. The club in Jacksonville Clay County Cruisers. allows voting on members cars. One of the reasons I quit going to their shows

We chose a Eagles club car show to attend today. Boy was it hot at 9:00 AM even and we were to late to get any shade so I set up our canopy. About 10:00 as we settled in to people watch those hardy souls brave enough to deal with the heat strolled and looked at the cars and trucks. I saw 78 on sign up sheets.

Here came a group of 9 cars down the hiway, I had seen them before at evening cruise nights off and on.
They all parked together set up shade canopy together and didn't move till the call to collect the voteing ballots. I knew there were to many really nice cars to stop what I was sure they were going to do.

Top 12 at this show drivers voting, all the same group. Will post the rest of the field after I upload the pictures.

    Voted best in show.

Any way the group took of the top 12 spots.

Not showen 66 white Ford Mustang coupe, 198? Monte Carlo in black primer. a 69 Chevell green & green.

So with drivers voting it can and does back fire when a group rolls in.
