Last Saturday grandson Isaac (on the left) having had his driver's license for a month, with his friend Nathaniel is off to a dinner and dance picking up their dates in my 1967 Buick GS400 convertible.

Since I am such a nice guy, when asked by Isaac if he could drive the car for the evening, we had some serious discussion about the route to the country club where they are too take photos, then the restaurant for dinner, and then another country club for the dance. We drove the route last week in my Enclave to establish the best way to get to all these stops. We did a test drive of the GS400 on Saturday morning and then Isaac and Nathaniel left our house at 4:30 PM in the GS400, picked up the young ladies, met their friend,s and competed the activities as listed above in good time.

The six lovely ladies at the country club for photos (five plus the convertible!) and five good looking guys.
(High school was never like this when I a teenager) All 10 did not ride in the convertible!

Apparently everything went well and all behaved so call it a great success and the car made it home safely. (Whew!)

A night to remember for sure. I am sure I will hear a request to use the car in spring with the top down.

Its fun being a grand father and watching the kids grow up and hopefully having positive influence on them.

Wow, you are a nice grandfather! I would of needed to be heavily medicated. Maybe even unconscious. I even get nervous when Jennifer drives my car!

Yep, I was concerned but figured this was a night out Isaac will remember for a long time and I wanted him to know I trusted him and perhaps build his confidence to do the right thing with a special car.

As a retired school teacher, I know that when you dress the kids up they behave better. I would never let him use that GS if he was in a set of jeans and a T-shirt.

I went to three high formals in '64, 65, 66 with the same young lady. The girls back then wore dresses that covered lower neckline to ankle, and they were gorgeous.
No muscle car to drive but I was able to drive a new Pontiac Parisienne, each year. Those were good times!!

Very nice. An evening he will long remember and tell the story long after we are all long gone.
BTW, Is it just my opinion, or are young gal's dresses getting a bit on the short side?

C'mon, are you telling me that you do not remember the '60's with thigh high leather boots and micro mini skirts? I think those dresses are very respectable for today's times.

Good job Chuck! I’ve borrowed out my cars for weddings too and it’s a neat way to be part of the event and contribute, just like you’re doing here.

Good on you Chuck. It must be different with grandkids because there is no way in Hades I would have let my son drive my GS to a formal. Hopefully I'll soften up.

Thanks for all the positive replies guys. When my wife saw the picture of the guys and gals her first comment was "I remember the 70's after we were married that the mini skirts came into fashion" She was happy she was a bit older and did not feel the pressure to join the club and wear them. I personally think the short skirts could tempt the guys to misbehave but what do I know these days and what is in the minds of young folks.

We live close to TCU university in Fort Worth and we drive through the campus every day on a major thoroughfare. As the students cross the street at the crossings I will tell you when the warmer weather shows up the outfits the young ladies wear are very minimal coming and going to class. Gym shorts and T-shirts are the standard dress. Of course at the cost of tuition at $50,000 there may not be much money left for upgraded clothing:rolleyes:
