It looks like I made the right decision not to come to Salem. Alan and I made the decision not to come last night after studying the storms Bonnie and Charley. Tropical Storm Bonnie seems to be spinning off some tornado's in Harnett county south of here and we are only getting rain so far. And now Hurricane Charley is up to 105 mph winds and still headed this way. Florida will get hit on the SW coast with some major winds and rain. I got two boys and a wife to think about, so the family comes first. I hope y'all have fun this weekend and please someone post some racing pictures and ET's for us to check out.
I've been in the driveway(in Harnett Co.) trying to get the WH1 running, she let me down just north of Sanford...any day that involves your car on a rollback ain't a good one
Bonnie wasn't much more than rain. We will see what Charley brings. Florida is getting nailed with 120 mph winds. I hope Salem is going well. I wish someone would post some pics.
I was in Salem and my wife called me back home because of Charlie's potential. We are forecast to have 65 mph winds but it looks like it is trending more towards Jimmy and Alan. You missed some great racing Thurs and I am missing it Fri and Sat.
Jimmy I'm still here with you. Last I heard it was supposed to be about a catergory 1 when it gets to us.
They had said it was supposed to nail us in charleston but now it's looking like it is going to hit north of us a little, That's good seeing how they didn't say we had anything to worry about until a few hours ago.
Looks like Florida is getting nailed now! I was in the shop and listening to the radio and they said the storm should be a catagory 1 and will go directly over Greenville! I will try to post some pics when it hits. Jim, I take it you flew up? My wife asked me on Wednesday what my plan for the weekend was and I said plan A was to stay home. I am glad I did. 70custom and 60buickrod you better still hold on you gonna get wet!:eek2:
This was last year during Isabel. The boys and I got out when the winds were dieing down and the streets were still flooded. We went out in the major part of the wind to let the boys step around the side of the house and let the brutal winds hit them. And yes we did this quickly and I made sure nothing was flying through the air and then we went right back inside!
This was our first hurricane here. It was not what we wanted or what they made it out to be, it was more like a heavy t-storm.
Gerig This is not much of one here yet either, right now just alot of rain. They can get alot worse, better to be over prepared. I'm sure Jimmy can attest to a few also. I have been through 7 or 8 of them here.
We are now getting the rain and wind. It ain't nuffin compared to Bertha, Fran, Floyd, Isabel. The storm is down from a hurricane to a tropical storm. The eye is deforming and passing east of us but the heavy rains are now on the western side.
The sun is coming out here. I came back from Salem for a false alarm. It spent its energy tearing up Fla. Of course I have been where Fla is and I feel their pain.
It's dying down here now. I hate I missed Salem but I am glad that I stayed as I would not really know what was going to happen. Maybe next year we can make it there. Jim, glad to see you and I still have power. They called team 1 into work at 12 today. I am on team 3 and should not have to go in. I work at Greenville Utilities!
After Fran I installed a 25KWA with an automatic closer powered by natural gas. We always have power.
I got a 2500W Honda. Since I work at Greenville Utilities I am the first one with my lights turned back on! At least that is what I tell the neighbors.
I survived here. Nice and sunny now. Actually my cable went out and I fell asleep. Slept Right through it. Glad everyone is ok
Hi everyone....while I'm now sitting in Minnesota, I was in Florida for Charley. Before I start that story, I saw a beautiful 71 Electra 225 on Longboat Key parked under a palm tree....what a site. Anyway, we were on Longboat Key previous to Charley's arrival. We were evacutated on Thursday as the storm was heading directly towards us and Tampa Bay. We were down there for a wedding (which went on as scheduled on Thursday evening, outside none the less) and the entire group decided to head inland to Orlando. Well, guess what.....Charley hit Orlando with near 100 mph winds. It was an interesting experience. As the eye approached, the lightening reminded me of the Northern Lights....teal, green, blue, pink and yellow....wild is the only way I can describe it. The eye hit about 9 pm and it was all over by midnight. The mess that was left behind was incredible. Of course Disney was up and running on Sunday !!! We ended up having to drive to Miami to get a flight out on Saturday afternoon to come back to Minnesota. I really feel sorry for all the victims in Florida. Good luck and Godspeed to everyone.
Ohhh Yeah, I live about 9 miles east from where the Eye hit... Luckly, My house was newer and had all the hurricane codes built in. So Luckily I didn't loose much (about $1000 round about). I have two Co-Workers, One here in Cape Coral that lost her Roof and everything in her house (water Damage), and another who lives (or lived) in Port Charlott (where the Eye did the most damage) and he also lost everything.... And he just bought his house 11 days earlier:eek2: ... moving down here from Maryland. You can tell It's a bad one when its ripping off the Hurricane Shutters on houses and blowing them away. I finally got power yesterday, and I'm lucky for it... Most don't have it yet. Got some nice Pics of 125mph sustained winds, with gusting to 140... here.
