yes sir, boys and girls. it is that time of year again. time to break out the old ought'six and head on out to the big timber to track and bag another one of those willey creatures of the wild lands. i, myself, dont hunt much anymore, except for the occasional deal on pot roast and the weekly scrounge for those tasty bits of car parts at my favorite salvage yards. so, anyone going to brave the wrath of jack frost, answer the call of nature, and head out to do some big game stalking, or are you going to stay home and enjoy the vikings kick butt or see if the patriots can keep up their winning streak? :beer

Not me... I'm big into shooting, just not hunting. I'd rather put 30 rounds into a piece of paper in 40 seconds rather than put one round into a Deer after countless hours. Personally I'm gonna stay home and watch the Patriots get their :moonu: kicked, and the Cowboys go all the way this year! Sure, they've had a rough start, but I can FEEL it, this year is the year!

Just walked in the door after a last-ditch effort to bag a muley here in Nevada. They close the season about the time Montana opens. Nice and hot so it's a big deal getting the meat home without spoilage. No problem here tho', nothing to shoot this year. Passed on a forky about 2 hours ago.. not going down that road. One of these days I'll try to get back home for an elk hunt but can't stand seeing all the changes up there where it's all become private. Sure ain't what it used to be, but what is anyway.

yeah, i suppose some of us take it for granted that there will always be next year. i see more game in peoples yards than in the hills, and one of the reasons i dont hunt much is because everytime i go out it is elbow to elbow wannabes  . i do have a great story about hunting down the elusive rack of ribs in the wilds of the meat case just off the produce isle...... :Dou:

Up in the nountains where my "office" is, is in the same area where the state if idaho decided to advertise as one of the best kept secrets in a couple of sporting magazines. You should see the madhouse! We have motorhomes and 4-door pickups going up and down the road like it's nonn-time in the city. Most of them are towing traiers with 2-4 4-wheelers and oh it's just awful. Guys shooting at anything that moves, and maybe some that don't.

I wonder if there's a bubba left in Minnesota or Michigan this time of year, or if they are all in Idaho as it appears...

    It's UNSAFE out there!

Gary, have you been over the pass into Ruby Valley during hunting season? Well, you get the idea then.

Rob, have you become re-energized with the skylark yet?

hey adam, like your screen name! :TU: yeah, i have been looking at it. i just bought a little 88 chevy beretta GT that i really like to drive, but there isnt much to do to it other than some bracing and a new HP chip. new cars get boring pretty quick. so as time allows i will be pulling the cover off the 68 and mess'in around a bit. it need a new fuel line, the carb rebuilt, a little wiring here an there. but the last time i played with it i had it idleing a little and the 350 may be salvageable. if not, that will be the major project for this winter.then there are brake lines, tires, the front seat, carpeting......and so it goes [hopefully]. rob

Gun season doesn't start here in FL until 11/13. Takes about a 1.5 mile trek through some decent brush and wet terrain before I reach my "area" to hunt wild boar. Hardly ever see anyone there due to length of walk and thick brush. More sightseeing than hunting last year. Year before I got 3 of them, 120, 115, 100 lbs. World of difference between domestic, store bought pork and wild boar.

I'm with you guys,I belong to a gun club and love nothing better than a turkey shoot or slug shoot. I don't hunt because of all the city boys that invade us every gun season, we always have at least one hunting death because of stupidity. Last year a guy shot his buddy to death from a tree stand because he saw movement in the brush that he was sure was a big buck. All this in front of the guys 12 year old son that had to see his dad dye because of carelessness. We have youth shoots every so often at the club to stress gun safty to the kids and it seems to have a positive effect. We may be Rednecks, but we do love our youngins! Like they say, you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
