Well, I'm new here and to buicks. In fact I really don't care for GM's period. I'm a die hard Ford guy. Now, before y'all shoot me, I've taken a liking to my '66 Skylark. I think I may actually keep it. It has good styling without being one of those cars on every corner. I'm going to do a resto-mod on it. It has nearly no rust in it, fairly straight body, very clean original interior, and the 300 and 3 spd column shift. I'm going to yank the 300 and manual and put in EFI and auto. The body is going to get cleaned up with a few pieces of chrome removed. I'm going to slam it on airbags and put 17" wheels on it. Then I'll just drive the hell out of it. Glad to meet y'all.

Guess from this angle it does look like stuff hanging on it, but it's just a branch of dead leaves in front of the camera.

BTW, anyone want to guess what I paid for this baby? $500, and it runs and drives everyday. :TU:

Thanks, it's my daily driver. The only thing wrong with it is the broken drivers side glass. Some punk broke into the car, only to find out that it was unlocked. Anyone have a window?

Welcome! I'm new to the board too and I have a 66 Skylark GS. I also have a drivers side window and the only thing I am missing is the car. You'll love the look you will get with your plan. Sounds great! Good luck with your project and keep us posted. The drivers window I have does have tint on it but it can be removed. Let me know.

Thanks, want a car to go with the window? Or should I just buy the window for the car? How much?

    memories

as for the hardtop and sedan windows they are different . but luckily but still rare , all 66-67 a -bodie gm's shared the same glass . being a sedan or coupe as they were called, were sparingly optioned. most had clear glass . as mine has the optional soft-ray green tinted glass . post skylarks are rare , since most post cars were specials . what all options is yours equipt'd with ? ps , pb, air, cloth interior ? mine is a very well optioned skylark , but a post . yours being a 3speed manual . you'd wonder why its a skylark ? yet theres been a fine line there when a order form made the car a special or skyarlk . anyways , good luck again and make it sweet . git 'r' done . -steve

Ok, mine has ps, no pb. 300 with 2bbl rochester. 3 spd on column. Black vinyl bench seat. Original color was a real light yellow. Interior is original and in good shape. 14" wheels, on Fords they look like Magnum 500's, don't know what Buick called them. So, do I have anything special? Should I restore it, or can I modify it without too much grief?

Jason, the 2 door coupe (post) with a V8 is relatively low production....6,427 cars. I don't know how many came with the 3 speed on the column....not many.
If you're planning on selling it in a few years, it'll be worth more if it's original. If you put a Ford engine in it, how's gonna buy it??? a Ford guy??? A Buick guy???
    :Do No:
They are REAL nice cars. You can do a few simple mods to make it an awesome driver....front disk brakes, a fatter front sway bar ('70-8x Trans Am will fit), and a faster-ratio power steering box, will make it a blast to drive.
The 300 bellhousing will fit a later 350 and 455, but you'll need a new flywheel. A floor shifter (repos are made for Chevelle bench seat cars), or a 4 speed swap would be nice. Hell, if you have the $$$, put in a 5 speed!!
I still think you should adapt that ford fuel injection setup to the 300....That'll make it a one-of a kind.
Have fun with it, but keep in mind, the more 'Buick' you keep it, the more it'll be worth.
hey, here's a pic of my '66 Special....300 4 bbl, dual exhaust, disk brakes, fat sway bars, and an 'old school' stance riding on Buick Mags. My next step is to swap in a manual trans setup....I just need a 300 flywheel.....so if yours becomes alailable... :Brow:

Ok, so what I'm getting is this: keep the car original. Well, then I need help finding the chrome that I'm missing. I also need a new rear bumper. I also need to learn about parts interchangability. Like, what disc brakes bolt on? What performance parts are available for the 300. Should I keep the 300? I like the 3spd column shift, it prevents most people from ever wanting to 'borrow' it. Thanks again, I hope to learn a lot about these pesky GM cars.
