Replaced my trans pan on my 2 spd automatic trans (1967). Used a neoprene gasket from Advance Auto. Cleaned surfaces real good. Put grease on pan and trans surfaces, bolted up carefully to 12 lbs pressure according to instructions. Added 3 quarts of trans fluid and checked 20 hours later (Car is still on stands and has not been started since change) and the pan is dripping a little trans fluid. What can I do to stop the dripping? Thanks!
Did you lay your pan flat on a level surface to check if the edges were distorted? This can cause a problem. Also, grease isn't a very good sealant, I would take it apart again and use some good Permatex.
I've used this before and it works well. http://www.permatex.com/products/prodidx.asp?automotive=yes&f_call=get_item&item_no=80062 I think NAPA has their own brand of it. I wouldn't use RTV because it doesn't hold up to transmission fluid. Found this out the hard way! I was thinking there is one out that specifically mentions trans fluid, but I can't think of it.
Check carefully to see if the leak is actually from the seal where the shift linkage goes through the main case. I had said problem, the fluid drips off the pan, but comes from the bad seal mentioned.
