Well, good luck with DMV's. Honestly, your best bet it to try to work your way back on your own, one owner at a time.
At one time all DMVs sold the data and it was accumulated and sold. I think I posted whaere you can get the old data. It will not be current but the more recent stuff is often easier to nail down.
Some states require a notorized statement of intent. And they usually dont release the information unless you haver a legitimate business need for the info. Like if you were an insurance company. David is right, you would have better luck going back one owner at a time. Thats how I found all the owners of my 70.
It depends on the DMV. My '62 originally came from North Dakota. All I had to do was fill out a form (and check a box as to why I needed the info, I checked the one that dealt with "research purposes") and mail it to the ND DMV along with $2. A couple of weeks later, I got a photocopy of the original title and all other applicable info they had. If you have an idea on which state your looking in, check out their website first, and then call if you have any questions.
In Mass the real Massholes ant the RMV(called here) took my $50 for a title search on my car and told me only the name of the guy I bought my car from who is a friend and even blacked out his address. Thanks for nothing.
It was last registered in Georgia in 81 so Im going to start there. Right before the car got put on the flatbed the previous owner took off the georgia plate. I wish i copied down what the plate said.
you need someone on the inside that has access to that kind of data. There are only 7 degrees of separation between you and any other person in the world. There is probly someone on this board that has access, or someone that knows somoene that you know. Seek and you will find.
