Yes, I'm looking at a '65 GS even though I'm "deep" into '67's. I've always liked the 65's and this particular car sounds interesting as it is supposed to be completely stock with very few miles. So, what is the simplest way to ID a true '65 GS . I see that the serial numbers for '65 V8 Skylarks were all the same. So what is the most obvious thing to look for? Did the '65 GS's come with the convt. boxed frame like the later years? If so, I guess that might be the easiest. Any assistance or suggestions appreciated. Thanks Harvey PS I'm just trying to keep up with George seeing he just got a 65 but he was lucky enough to find a 4 speed.
Harvey, I came up with that same question a few years ago when someone asked me to have a look at a 65 Skylark, seller told him it was a true GS. I found out that the engine production codes for a 1965 GS are LR (10.25:1 comp.ratio) and NA (8.75:1 comp. ratio). Good question about the convertible frame, I couldn't figure that one out because I couldn't compare it with a convertible frame. But when it's a low-milage car like you said, it should have the original engine in it. Code is on the right side of the block. Good luck and let us know what it is? :TU:
Check this thread re boxed frame for a '65. Korrie http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7439&highlight=frame+part
Thanks Guys,:beer Looks like the frame will be the easiest way to check. If that's correct then we'll check the engine #'s. I'll probably be back with more ??'s once we get to check the car out. Cheers Harvey
Hey Harv,`65s are my second favorite GS`s after the `67,the only way you can varify a 65 GS is from the boxed frame if hardtop and if its conv`t its kinda tricky, engine, tranny, see where the batery tray is at,hope this helps, for the time since we cannot find any `67 GS Conv`ts 65`s are great, good luck and keep us posted.:TU:
