How to hook up 455 starter wires

Ok, I got the fuseable links. Problem is that they came with a blue crimp connector on them, no way a 10 gauge wire will fit in there. Can I cut it off and replace it with a yellow connector? I do not know anything about fuseable links and am concerned that if I cut it, even half inch, that I would be compromising its integrity.

 

Cut the minimum amount and use good connectors, and "glue heat shrink" as a barrier from moisture and oxidation.

The links are made with a specific length, gauge, and metal alloys to allow the proper protection, but there is "factored in" tolerances, so you will be within that +/-.

I rebuilt my harnesses and also needed to replace the connectors to fit the links to the correct 10 and 12 gauge wiring.

 

ok, another question about wire routing. I am ready to replace the fuseable links and run new longer pieces of wire since the old ones were spliced into so much. However, the person before me cut all three red wires, two from starter and one from alternator and spliced them together. One is a little thicker, I think 10 gauge but the other two look like 12 gauge red wires. How do I know which one to connect directly to the alternator and which two go to to the starter?

In my picture, the three red wires are coming from the firewall. The yellow lamp wire goes to the starter and the single red wire on the bottom right goes to the alternator.

 

At the starter there's only 2 wires,the other wire is spliced in further up,between the starter and the alternator.Of the 2 wires at the starter,the smaller one is for the headlights,the other is for the ignition.The spliced wire goes to the alternator..Hope I remembered right.Bruno.

 

Ok, so the three red wires are supposed to be spliced together? Looks like the alternator wire is about 10” long and then it splices into the three wires from the firewall.
