Guys here is another one of my inexperienced questions.
I would like to bench test my rear defroster unit.

    How can I do that?

Well, I don't remember ever actually messing with a rear window defrost motor.... but assuming it's like any other 12 volt motor you should be able to simply use jumper cables from a battery to the 2 terminals on the motor to make it spin.
If it spins the wrong way, switch the wires.

I suppose to get more technical, someone would probably be able to tell you how many amps it should be pulling and if it's pulling way too many there's probably something wrong with it.

    Hope that helps

Just apply +12v DC to the motor, (I think there is only one wire) and make sure the unit is grounded.
If it works the motor is good. If it doesn't work in the car it could be a poor chassis ground, a blown fuse, a bad switch,
or an open circuit in the wiring. :TU:

    Thanks you guys!

I used RicknMel67's idea, with jumper cables and it worked great. I was thinking about a battery charge but the battery cables worked great. Thanks guys!

The defroster worked excellent! Someone needs to buy this, it is in great shape, all 4 studs, the housing is great and the grill is near perfect!
