I was thinking about having my BBB 400 heads as well as the intake and exhaust manifolds ported and polished. How much HP gain would I see. I would like the motor to retain the " stock " look, but be modified inside. I'm not going to do anything now, but might be a winter project. Any ideas what I can expect for gainso No: Dan:3gears:
I'd bet that a nice port and polish is worth 30HP or so. I've never done it so I don't know for sure. If you want the stock look, you should just buy a an edelbrock intake, grind the name off and paint it red. Chevy guys won't even know the difference. -Kevin
Hey Dan, why not keep the 400 stock and stick a quality 455 in there. Put the 400 valve covers on it. No one will know the difference period and you will have a nice 'chine.
i guess the big ??? would be what H/P you are looking for, just a warmed over 400? or if your looking for say 400+ H/P with the stock look and good driveabilty. the 455 might be the way to go. you might be into it less for more torque and h/P.
I was just thinking about it. I'm not even sure if I'll do anything to the motor, I have enough work to do to the car's body. I was pretty much just thinking about how much HP you could get and still maintain the stock looks for the motor. Thanks, Dan:3gears:
