Bear in mind that engine weight may mean different things to different people. The basic engine weighs a heck of a lot less then it does with exhaust manifolds, starter, generator or alternator, carburetor, flywheel, etc. attached. I found weights ranging from 652 to 685 lbs., but the tables didn't say what was attached to the engine.

If you want a crazy heavy motor, build a big-block Ford!

According to the chart in the attached link, only a Cadillac and the Chrysler Hemi engines (v8's*) are heavier than a nailhead - some weigh the same. Heavy enough that it would be hard to "heave" one across the garage.

    * I didn't include any V10 engines or the Allison or Merlin V12's.

Find how much the typical SBC weighs.....it's less than that.

Look at the Width of the 425. I thought hot rodders liked them because they were so narrow. What Gives?

All i know is i gave the Harbor Freight 750 pound engine stand a run for its money with my 63 401, that stand was sagging with that beast on it, and that was with no brakets or accessories, but it had the carb and manifolds on it.
