How much compression can I run with stock stage 1 cam and 455 with aluminum heads and still run 35 degrees timing pump gas no ping??? Motor apart for a go thru. Have pump gas 10.7 now with ta510 cam and no ping at 34 degrees. I want a lower rpm engine for durability and street use.

This was discussed a while ago and the general concensus was that, with aluminum heads you could go up to a max of about 11.25 to 1 and still get away with 93 octane and no pinging.

I wonder if you considered using a milder street cam to help your lower end performance?

Are you saying that you are planning to switch to a Stage 1 cam? If so, I wouldn't think you would have any trouble. Thicker head gaskets wouldn't hurt though. But with Aluminum heads, and 10.7 compression, I would think you would be OK. There would, however, be much higher cylinder pressure at low R.P.M. with a Stage 1 cam compared to the TA-510....so....there would definately be a difference.

    I am no expert.

By the way Ken, Do you think you could shave a little off of your "location" in your information at the top. No offense meant. :TU: My computer doesn't like it.

Depends in a large part on your cam timing (specifilcally intake closing) and quench. A max DCR of 8.3 with 93 and AL heads.
