This weekend I plan to have my '70 Skylark at the East Coast Regionals at Cecil County Dragway. It will be the first runs on the car since getting it all back together. What air pressure should I start at with the air bags? I'm running South Side Machine lift bars, rear sway bar and drag shocks. The motor dynoed 545hp and I'm using a PAE 5000 switch pitch converter with 3.73 gears with a spool. I have an air bag on the passenger side now and plan on putting one on the drivers side also before the race. I'm just looking for some advice on where to start.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Air Pressure.

I would start at 20 in the passanger side , with about 6 in the drivers. Have someone watch you launch and see if the back stays level. I do not have your horsepower, but many things are similar. 373 gears, factory sway bar, no hop bars, 90/10 front shocks. I have seen one person I know that runs only one bag and puts 20 lbs in it. All the best. :TU:

Not sure how the weight of the cars is gonna play into this but I run 5 in the left and 16-17 in the right. Seemed to work best for me. I started with 5 in the left just because you dont really want to run the bags empty. I started with 20 in the right, and worked my way around from there.

Good luck , and have fun............

I run about the same as the others who posted. I run 5 psi in the drivers, and 20 psi in the passenger side. Have someone stand behind the car when you leave. You want to keep the car level when it leaves the line.

At the track, I run 5 lbs. in the driver's side and 15 lbs. in the passenger side. On the street I just have 5 lbs. in each.

I ran 4 (left) and 13 (right) when I ran SS Machine bars. I found that weight transfer was adversely affected by 15 + lbs.

    Ken,
I'll be there this weekend, I met you last year down there,we have identical cars, you had yours there but was'nt racing.
I would start with 5 lbs in the drivers side and 15 in the other, and go from there. Friday is test and tune all day!! I hope you plan on being there for Fri.
to fine tune your machine. Anyway, that's a good starting point along with tire pressure, launch RPM's and shift points.
With a whole day of "test and tune", Sat should be very nice :TU:

Thanks again for all of the suggestions, I really didn't know where to start.

    Kenny,
I do remember meeting you and seeing your beautiful Red GS last year. We just painted my car about a month ago and it is now Dark Blue with a black stripe on the hood. It's all back together now and looks like a car again!

    See ya Friday,
    Ken

Have someone Videotape it from the starting line directly behind you down lowww....so you can see the suspension load up on the leave.

Most video camera's let you "jog" foward one frame at a time so you can really analyze whats going on - I did this years ago for a friend and he was very suprised at what he saw....not anything what he thought was going on
