Hello, can anyone tell how many limemist color GS and or GSX cars were painted in 1971. Or how can I find this info. Thanks
Info from the GM "Daily Car Report" dated 8-31-71 Lime Mist code "H" 871 total GS350, GS455's & GSX's in 1971 of that: 381 had sport mirrors 517 had Body Side & Front Fender Moldings. The report does not get specific enough to break down GS's and GSX's. :beer
8374 total 71GS if my math is right more than 10% are lime mist That surprises me. Not that I do or don't like the color, but it doesn't seem like it would be that popular then.
hi, anyone know about 69? Mine is lime poly with black top, GS350, with buckskin int. I havent run across many, most would probably have been redone in another color comb.
Mike, Sorry I cannot help you with the '69 numbers at this time. I may try to get some of the '69 owners together to split the cost of purchasing copies of the '69 info from the Sloan Museum. I would like to get the 1969 GS400 coupe and convertible info along with the GS350 info. I think the cost would be around $70 for that info because of the number of pages that would be included. I will create a post to see if anyone is interested.
This is a little off track, but do the production numbers imply that if there are fender mouldings there should also be side mouldings? I reckon that the repaints would always replace the fender mouldings but not necessarily the sides. I don't see too many side mouldings in place these days.
Mike, Do you mean the side moldings that follow the "sweep" body line? The side trim was not a standard feature on '68/'69 GS's but it was an option. I do not have any proof ( in writing) that the side trim was available as an option on GS's but we have seen quite a few cars with it. I have yet to find the option code for this option and I have not seen it in the "Daily Car Report" from Sloan. :beer
I was still talking about the 71's. Horizontal side door guards. Was wondering based on the way you wrote the description whether the wheel well mouldings went along with door guards as an option together. Like this one. Thanks.
Hi Mike, You could get the body side moldings by themselves as an option (W4). There was another option (W2) that was called "Custom Upper Peak & Rear Body Moldings" which included "body side upper peak, rear deck and quarter extensions." (Body side peak std. on 3467.) I think the 71 GS in the picture has both of these options by the look of the trunk and rear of quarter panels. This information came from a buick GS order sheet. I didn't notice anything about wheel well moldings. Perhaps they all came with them. Cheers Harvey
