Just for the sake of #'s. How many guys out there are working on a ATI blower setup whether it be a 350, 455, or a 231v-6 with the new block? Just trying to see if this trend is actually catching on like it should. The blower kits are avaliable as a bolt on so who's game? I'm a nitrous guy so I'm feeling out my competition.:Brow: :spank:
I'd love to know who has a 350 with a supercharger setup. I've been thinking about that in a '70 Skylark and make a Pro Touring car with 6-speed tranny and a polygraphite and coil-over suspension all around. Car wouldn't be a quarter mile car, but should be able to knock down mid-12's I would like to think.
Phil, thats what i'm going to do with the lark.. eventually. First i need to rebuild the motor, headers, exhaust, posi rear, boxed control arms, rebuilt front end, and then eventually get to the 'charger. I figure itll take around 8,000 for the stuff mentioned above.
Rick, You already know I've been "experimenting" with the ATI/350 project. We are waiting on the rods and some bottom end goodies and we will give it another go. Cam this time around will be 245/248 on a 114c. Also have 4 different pulleys for the charger.
Kit info For those new or who don't know. 231/350/455 blower kits, look here http://xsperformance.net/ For a Blow-through carb message board http://www.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?&user=huntracers Jim Wise has just done a 494 build-up also w/ a ATI Supercharger and is itchin' to do another. Can you say 700+ HP on pump gas?:TU:
Question, is it possible to make a stroker 350, like a 383?? Can you take one of these Chebby kits and adapt it to a Buick block?
A Buick is stroked from the factory / stock with a 3.850 stroke. That is why a Buick 350 is easily mistaken for a big block motor. Cause compared to a cheby its big.
Hey Phil! We Don Need No Steenkin Stroker!!! We already have one. Stock!! Bigger pistons for a few more cubies. What we really need is heads flowing near 300 and a better choice of intakes.
I wonder if somebody could take some of those aluminum stage 2 V6 heads and cut and weld them to fit a 350? o No: I've heard of such before! :TU: Cubic dollars would help, no doubt.
Mike T is working on a nailhead blower kit for me. last i heard he had a nailhead equipped car located and was going to be using it to fabricate a kit. looking to make around 550-600 hp and a whole lotta tork. Bob
Re: Power steering Yes... PS brakets are supposed to be done and being machined right now. Mike called and told me that the "proto" was on the way for me to start testing......
Yes they can.... you will just need to watch your power level..... The main reason I went to the Halo Girdle and Seffs pan was because I was pushing what the stock block / bottom end would take (no fill, not studded, and no block girdle). The bearnings were showing sighns of things moving around a bit... Since the addition of the halo, all looks well ( and I've been pushing it a bit harder)
Can these kits be used on stock bottom ends?? YES! No problem, as long as your smart about it because these blowers can make power very easy. A timing controller and boost blow-off valve would be a good investment on a stock short block.
Just as a side note.... ATI doesn't recommend using a blow off valve with there blowers.... they claim it causes blower surge and can hurt the internals...... They stick with bypass valves and using pulleys to get the PSI that's desired..... Otherwise I would have used a valve a long time ago instead of swaping all these dang pulleys Just thought I'd through that out there so nobody got in trouble hurting their blower....
I know you can't use blow offs for FI w/mass air since it screws up your fuel and that gives you a surge problem. On a carb setup it shouldn't cause a problem. I agree that you should set your boost with pulleys and use a blow off just as a safety. The blower doesn't know the difference between a bypass and a blow off. Only that a bypass generates more heat. I know thats just what ATI told you but I just don't buy it. I wouldn't worry about hurting a blower unless you overspin it or don't run some type of relief valve when pushing alot of PSI. If you had a valve that wasn't progressive and was just open or closed and it shuttered, I could believe that would bother a blower after long periods whether it was a relief or by-pass. I've seen to many setups with blowoff's to think that they are hard on blowers. Just my thoughts... :Comp:
can anybody with a "g" body w/ powersteering comfirm that the p/s brackets work between the narrower frame rails i emailed mike t about my 79 regal w/ the prochrager set up and he said he couldnt comfirm that it would work but it would not likely work sorry about bad grammer...4am...tired
I dunno, Rick- nitrous makes a great intercooler for a blower! Anyhow, I didn't vote because I'm still in the "planning stages" (it appears that this is a few years off still). -Bob C.
