Any guesses on how many of the 67 Convertibles are left. I know they made 2000 plus GS and about 6500 Skylarks so with only 8500 at the start how many can be left. Any guesses. I recently purchased a 67 Skylark Convertible that was in pretty good shape considering it is almost 40 years old. It was original Apple red with a black top. Black buckets and a console automatic. It was missing the seats and the console. The frame is solid and the body is good except the rear body mounts in the trunk are shot. I am planning a frame off resto. I will keep the frame and body paint looking original. No two stage clear coat for me or powder coated frame. I purchased a 67 GS grille on eBay the other day and have noticed they are coming out of the woodwork now that there are plans to make reproductions. Funny how that is. Any way I am looking for a parts car as I have noticed somebody has installed a 66-core support. And there are so many other small parts I need it would probably pay off. Any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks Scott :TU:
Welcome to the board Scott. A recall a member here used a 66 core support with 67 fenders or vise versa and it was a huge hassle. To use the plastic grille the proper headlamp buckets are needed. They will be not as deep on the inside toward the center grille and and won't notched for the grille bar. No idea how many 67 rag GS's or Skylarks are left. Not to many in the rust belt anyway. Most were rotted 20 years ago. Ray
Welcome to the board Scott Don't have a clue how many 67 rags are left. But I would guess not too many. Ray is correct about the headlight bezels. You'll need to gather up some GS bezels or maybe try to "trim" your Skylark bezels. If you're going to clone it to a GS.... you'll want to start looking for hood scoops, a star wars air cleaner, and rear wheel well chrome right now. Those parts costs have tripled in the last 3 years. I cloned mine into a GS, and it's getting close to done... :3gears:
Core Support I don't plan to use the 66 support. I just notice that things didn't look quiet right. After a little research i could see it was a 66 core support and 66 headlight bezels. The car came with a small block chevy in itwhen i bought it. I have a 71 455 that i am rebuilding to install back in the car. I am going to make it look as orginal as i can. That why i am looking for a parts car. By the time i get all the parts together for this convertible i could buy a parts car cheaper. enclosed are some starting photos. I will keep current pictures over the next year as i restore it. As far as the 8500 convertibles produced in 67 i would say 50% rotted. 10% were lost to accidents. Maybe 25% are still out there is some form or another. That's about 2200 left?? Also i noticed a GS on ebay that was claimed to be a doccumented GS and it had the chrome spear on the hood. Is that possible? i have the same setup. Check out the etching on the rear quarter glass!!! I guess i will be needing new glass too! Thanks Scott
I'd say the white GS rag is legit. The cowl tag matches the options it has except I'm not so sure about the black and white seats. Previous 67 cars I've seen with the 198 option had black buckets. I would question the hood spear and the 4spd finger guard for the rad.. BTW conv. 1/4 glass is slightly different than the hardtops 1/4 glass. Good Luck :TU: Ray
Radiator guard My assembly manual shows that the 400 did not have shroud, only the top metal guard and a 4 blade fan. Not much of a chance in summer traffic. But I guess the traffic was not a problem in 67. Are you sure the quarter glass is different for a convertible??
Good to hear you didnt do that to the glass, I had to go back and read it again to make sure. Thats a dam shame, its goin to be a bitch to find that glass, maybe year one would have that? Happy restoring.
The heavy duty cooling set up came with the shroud and was common on the A/C cars. The should is only about 3 1/2 inches high laying on the ground flat. The 300 or 340 other shrouds were about 5 or so inches high laying flat. I think they came with 7 blade fans in the heavy duty cooling system. Someday this 4 spd will be done!
