How lean is TOO lean??

I pulled the plugs on my 462 after connecting EGR. My plugs were very light tan prior to EGR, and now they have a white-ish appearance.

Would this mean that I'm running too lean? It still drives fine, without bucking or surging, but I don't want to burn a valve. Is reading spark plugs still a viable method of determining the proper mixture when EGR is employed?

    Thanks

Considering what's in (and not in) todays pump urine, I don't consider plug reading to be viable with or without EGR.

I do plug reads, and find them helpful. I run a Holley carb. so jet changing is relatively easy. Not much sense doing it if you can't make adjustments.

I do 1 at freeway speeds, Pop it in nuetral, turn off ignition and read it on the shoulder. I do an inside plug and outside plug.

I do a WOT read next. after freeway read, I floor it through low and second gear, once I reach top speed in second, I hit nuetral and cut ignition and do the same as above.

Toasty brown is optimal but most emission vehicles will tend toward white. The car will run fine but the A/F ratio is not optimal for maximum HP.
