Just curious, how hot if at all does your ignition coil get after a couple of minutes of the switch being on, or after run time. I tried to start my car yesterday, and it would not start no spark, right away went and checked out the coil and pertronix ignition module so took off the coil and noticed it was cracked around the center post. seemed weird at first but i remembered, i was installing my tunes and it only works with the switch in the on position and not back, and remembered that the coil spent all that time with power and wondering if that made the coil crack and go bad, but why.. went and bought an msd coil and the accell points eliminator installed them and boom fired right up, now i still noticed the coil got hot again while the ignition switch was on, could it be a ground, i dont want it to be a bad thing in the future if this is not normal. it ussually gets hot but not burning hot, still want to make sure before i take out the car. thanks

In normal operation with engine running, a coil is constantly being turned on and off by either points or elec ignition. If engine isn't running with the key on, you'll have current constantly flowing thru the coil IF the points/ign box are closed.
I once had a coil blow up on me when engine was off and key was on for some time.... I learned my lesson the hard way!

Hey Walt, My name is Walter how cool. anyways sounds about right, i didnt know it was turned on and off as the engine goes, maybe thats why. so they are commen when they stay on for a while to blow up, the other one which was a pertronix cracked so i think it was about to blow up i guess. so is there a remedy to that, how can i make the back switch turn on the stereo which the back switch is there a way to do it. that way i dont have to use the ignition on to turn on the radio. thanks

After inserting the key, turn it to the left instead of right. The left turn powers accessories and not ignition...that won't help if someone wired your radio to 12V IGN rather than 12V ACCY, however.
