How does the crank bushing go in?

How far is the bronze bushing in the end of the crankshaft supposed to go in? I drove mine in and it stopped about halfway. Doesn't seem to want to go any farther. I noticed a slight seam about halfway into the bore before driving it in. Is it supposed to stop there or does it go all the way in until flush?

It goes all the way in flush with the edge on the crank. Make sure you put the tapered side out so when you slide the trans in, it helps to align the input shaft.

I screwed up one time and put it in backwards. Not the end of the world, but its a bear to put in the tranny.

I would give the bushing a good whack with a sledge and a socket up against the bushing. If that doesn't work, get the bushing out and remove the burr. I'd think about replacing the bushing if it took a beating going in or out. There is a special tool to remove it if you have to take it out

    Good luck

After I posted this question, I looked in my chassis manual. There is an illustration showing the clutch setup and it seems to show the bushing for the GS to be protruding slightly, but for the Skylark to be flush. Any thoughts on that? This is going into a GS 400.

Its gotta be flush with the crank not stickin out,and if you need to take it back out and dont have any special puller use the ol` grease method and she`ll come right out.

    Thanks
