How does that under hood light work on a 79?

    How does the under hood light work on a 79? Blub n socket are roached, but I probed the wire and has 12v but I don't see any switches on or around the hood, how does or did it know to shut off? [ if I wire a new bulb n socket to it, don't want to drain battery?]

    Mercury switch in the housing--tilt up, makes contact. Tilt down, breaks it. (I had an '80 Regal that would glow underneath sometimes if it was tilted too steeply on the driveway.)

    eBay $15 to $135 and they all look the same. And it is just a brake light bulb. Think Ill poke around the Led section and get something small and bright on a switch.
