How do you guys feel about this?

I wanted to take a moment here to share an upsetting tidbit with the board. I think I speak for the better majority of us in appreciating this valuable Buick website, as not only a great networking tool but also (specifically this thread) a fantastic Buick parts locator for those items we need to complete our projects. Lately though, I have noticed some users who I wish not to pinpoint, coming on V8Buick looking for good parts and good deals, only to shortly thereafter show up on eBay and my local Connecticut Bargain News newspaper.
Let me just say this - 'I' (and hopefully some of you) don't appreciate users on this board taking advantage of this great resource Buick restorers have. If you're posting wanted parts ads in an attempt to line your own pockets, find somewhere else to get parts from.

    Sincerely,
    Matt

I thought this topic got used up pretty well already. Do we have to do it all again?

I'm new to the board. I generally hang out at LS2.com. I got referred to this board by a member. I love this site. Not only has the other members been helpful, I've found parts that I needed to complete my GS. Just wanted to say thanks to all who helped.....

  5. i sell things on ebay but i get alot more for them there than i do here. just because you guys help me as well as i you i hope.
and thoughs of you who have delt with me know i can ask you to set the price most of the time as most of what goes your way is not mine but local yards here.
i myself have gone as far as telling people to come up and take the parts off themselves or give me what its worth for me to do so.
if i wanted to get rich it seems i would put it all on ebay as i seen things go even double what i have sold them for here.
    my thought on the subject.

    Matt,
It burns me up evertime I see the parts wanted section! Mr. GM pirate is more like it. And better yet, the buyer seller feedback on this board!!!!! Buys it from one guy and tripples his money on the next guy! Look on any Gm web board and there he is. I have been wanting to bring this up for a long time and never had the heart. Thanks for the help!

I know we will never stop people from buying and reselling parts for profit, and after all isn't that the american way? BUT, I do not agree with people that make it their quest to profit off THIS resource. And let me even play devils advocate for a minute - if you are someone reeling in the benefits from this board, can't you at least make a contribution to it? If you've made umpteen hundreds of dollars off selling Buick parts, would it kill you to throw the site 50 bucks for upkeep etc.?

Couldn't agree more. If I purchased a part here & couldn't use it or whatever, it would be sold at the same price. I like to believe "what comes around goes around" What you take from others can be taken from you.

Huh, I do have to say that w/o this board, why else would I be putting in a 455? This board has been great to find parts. A big BOO HOO to those who are making a buck on us. I may have a masters degree (I graduate this Sunday) and I still have the common sense not to buy from those to make a profit who could later on help me again.

As I see it, there are 3 different scenarios when I'm hunting down, pulling, boxing, and shipping parts for somebody.

    1. For somebody who's working on their own car or their friend's car, I don't mind (actually enjoy) doing it at my cost, it's just part of keeping "The Buick Thing" going.

    2. For somebody who is in the Buick parts or resto business, I don't mind helping them out, but I expect them to send some of their profit my way. It's part of keeping "The Buick Thing" going, but it's also part of a business.

    3. For somebody who is in the business of looking for cheap parts so they can flip them for a profit, I don't care to deal with. It's NOT a part of keeping "The Buick thing" going, it's simply business. It IS a part of a free country/economy, and that's fine elsewhere, but I don't think it belongs here in my "hobbyland sandbox".

Here on V8Buick, I expect/assume you guys are also interested in keeping "The Buick Thing" going, so I lump you into group 1 and 2 as you indicate, and have no problems with that. BUT - when somebody comes along and "hides" behind the anonymity of the board, looking to make a buck off of my/our goodwill, that's a case of #3 posing as #1, and I can't help but feel mislead, and I don't like that one bit. :af:

SO - "mrskylark71", in the finest West Texas fashion, I'm callin' you out. Just exactly which scenario do you fit into? I note that of your 200 posts, ALL are in the parts wanted/for sale section. If you're in the parts business, I'd think you could at least advertise and let people know who/what they're dealing with. I also note that you're one of the very few on the board who haven't taken the time to select an avatar or add any of the other info that most folks around here use to become a "person". Also, it looks like you're in two locations, Cheshire and Meridian.
    What's up???

if you dont want to see it on ebay......DONT SELL IT. or just put it on ebay yourself. stop complaining. i go to yard sales to find things cheap to sell on ebay for more, does that make me a jerk?

    Why, yes, yes it does.

No of course not. But I think the point has been missed. If you come on this board and say "I need a shift fork for my 70 GS455, please help" I might be inclined to part with one of my extra parts to help a Buick brother out. I would love to see your Bad Buick on the road and would like to meet you and shake your hand at a Buick event. I would feel good knowing that I helped a fellow enthusiast out. It would have been a part I had no intention of selling or I would have put it on eBay myself or offered it for sale here. Many on this board have extended their hand to me in this way and I have tried to return the kindness whenever I could.

There's nothing wrong with making a buck but I think most would agree that they would rather know the score going in.

unfortunately, you cant trust everyone. perfect example is .....i sold a car (vw) that i loved for $300 in hope that the person would keep it alive. i'll be damned if i didnt see it parted out on the same volkswagen enthusiast website that i put it up for sale. the kid probably made about a thousand bucks. but what am i going to do. you can only hope.

i need the letter I for my 66 lark hood.

    here's a thought

Might not be a bad idea to start posting project pics along with the parts wanted items just so the rest of us know which "category" of the 3 listed by James. For example: I deperately need a passenger side scoop for my car (not grille, but the painted part it sets in). Does anyone have one for sale?
