    Have a slight issue.

I want to modify my rear, in that i mean i want to get either a posi unit or a spool for it. I dont know what type of rear i have.

I bought this car from a man who put in a 70' 455 or so he says. the car is a 72' GS. I know its def. a 10 bolt, but which one it is, whether its the B.0.P. 8.2/8.5 or the chevy carrier 8.2/8.5, is there any way of telling? any help would be great, thanks in advance guys.

Another thing, how hard is it to put in a spool? rear ends scare the heck out of me, but i heard that putting in a spool is basically taking out all the complex parts and replacing it with the spool, truth behind this...i dunno...but if that could be answered as well, that would be great.

I'm no expert :Do No: but if you drive your car on the STREET--a spool may not be the
way to go.It's early in the day some better knowledge will pop up--hang on!

Ok, so i found a link on that site, to basically tell me the difference between the 8.2 and 8.5, the 8.5 has two ridges on the bottom of them, kind of like dog ears...now how do i tell the difference between a chevy rear and a bop rear?

Right side axle, close to the pumpkin. Look for stamped numbers in the axle tube housing.
'72 GS 350 would have come with: LA-3.08 open, LS-3.08 limitied slip,LH-3.42 open or an LW-3.42 limited slip. Should the rear housing be original you can find these numbers, Might take some scraping/wire brush & elbow grease.
