Anybody know about refrigerators? Mine is not cold. 50 degrees and the milk is bad. Vacuumed out the coils and turned it to medium from high. Now it's at 40 degrees, but shouldn't it be below 40? :Do No:
    TIA

I like my milk COLD! I prefer fridge temps in the mid-upper 30's. Not sure if 40 is acceptable.

If memory serves, milk stays good below 42' F. So 40 should be fine. If you really want to know call an appliance repair guy and find out.

I was told 40 degrees for the fridge and 28 for the freezer.

    How old is it???

A fridge is like a cars AC but a tad better form the lack of movement. But it should be serviced every 10 years atleast. Long as the compressor works it probably low on freon.

Sound's like a trip to Roy Edwards Appliance in Phoenix . I installed appliances for him in the 90's . Back in the day when I was single and lived in Phoenix .

Great place with a large selection. Good Luck :pp

Check to make sure the circulation fan is operating.

When your fridge is actively cooling, there will be a fan in the freezer that is blowing. This circulates the air around the whole appliance. If this fan is not working correctly, it will cause syptoms like you describe...things stay cool, but not nearly cold enough.

This happened to me recently. It was very easy to replace the fan motor. :TU:

Temp in freezer 0 degrees, 32 to 40 in refer(personal taste). Ck for frost on evaporator cover in freezer. If frosted you have a defrost problem, the most common no-cool problem.
3 parts to a defrost system, heater, termination thermostat, and defrost timer. There should be contunity thru heater-t'stat. if one is open replace it. Assuming they are cold enough, 10 or less. If they are good, it is most likely the timer, you can test by turning the timer manualy to the defrost mode, go slow it will click and stop the compressor and turn on the defrost.
If this sounds to difficult, or are not sure call a service company. Good luck!
There are other things to try this is most common. If worse comes to worse try :blast:

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

We just bought a new GE fridge with a digital readout. Their recommended default was 37 degrees for the fridge and 0 degrees for the freezer. I have it set at 35 fridge and 7 degrees for the freezer. 40 degrees is way to warm for a fridge.

happened to me as well, over the summer.

I am not nearly as subtle as you, I beat the beejesus out of the fan with a hammer handle until it kicked on. I had to turn the temp UP in the fridge after that, my water was turning to ice in my Brita jug.

My landlady was outside and heard the racket. She asked what the noise was. I almost said "that's the sound of you saving 400 bucks" but instead I told her a leg came off my kitchen chair and I put it back in.
