:Dou: I am unfortuntely trying to sell my 1968 Buick Gran Sport GS400. I purchased this car already restored about 3 years ago. I have never been certain what constitutes "#'s Matching". If it has to do with serial numbers, where do I find them on the Engine, Tranny, Rear End? If it is just the basic #'s like: 400ci, TH400 Trans; then my car is #'s matching, but if it has to do with the VIN/Serial Number I have no idea.

I would appreciate any help. If I should post this in a different Forum, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Greg

"Numbers matching" seems to have different meanings to different folks, but it always involves more than just having the right engine CID and trans model. You'll want to start by matching the dash VIN tag to the engine serial #, usually stamped on the front left of the engine block. The last 6 digits should be identical if they are original to the car. Those digits should also be found on the original TH400 transmission. From there, the distributor # is usually also considered when claiming "matching numbers". Tons of ID information can be found on buicks.net, though that may now go by "teambuick.net".

I can show you where to look for the # if you want. I am in Zimmerman too.
    Give me a p/m.

Usually that is correct, mine is actually stamped on the back right side of the engine block  Very light stamping... The factory worker must have been hung over the day they stamped my block
