I've got a 48 Olds coupe with a 72 Buick 350 engine. It does not have power brakes on it so I'm not much worried about low vac. but I want this thing to REALLY lope at a stop light, so how big can I go on a cam without worrying about screw in studs?(if I even have to do that). This is my first buick V-8.I have mainly done chevys although I have had 2 87 GN's.The buick 350 I have is all stock.I am trying to find a dual plane aluminum intake(where do I find one?)None in PAW or Summit.Oh yeah and what size holley carb would be just right on this engine?

look to t/a performance for parts & cams, etc .
they have a website & are active on this board

look to jim weise on this board . he is a big buick engine guru .
lots of guys on this board are very knowledgible on the small block 350 .

I think the largest TA cam you can go with would be the TA212. It has a bit of a lope to the idle and has enough vacuum to run the brakes. The next "largest" cam would be the 310....I think Dave told me that cam would require notched pistons and 10:1.

HERE is what a TA212 sounds like with full 2.25 exhaust and dynomax mufflers.

How much does your car weigh, and what stall is your converter? Also, what rear end gear and tranny?

this is right off the ta site...

"TA 310. Excellent street and strip cam ._ At least 9.5:1 compression recommended._ You'll know that you put a cam in._ Stock rockers ok._ Must use TA valve springs, retainers and lifters._ Power brakes ok._ Fair Idle"

    and heres the 212

"TA 212. Excellent performance cam._ Gives 25 HP increase over stock cam._ Substantial improvement in power without hurting fuel economy._ Stock valve train, converter and gears are ok._ Good Idle"

i was thinkin about the 310 cam kit. anyone know the compression on a stock 350? or the best way to get better compression so i can get the 310?

    heres the site

    I have the 310 cam in my 71 350 GS, Awesome cam:cool:
I have Sterling H522np pistons in it, they are SUPPOSE to be 9.25 to 1 comp. ratio at .020 deck height.
I measured my deck height, it was at .055 in the hole, pretty typical for Buicks! I had the block deck cut .050 to give a deck height of .005
    My heads are shaved .030
My rockers are TA's 1.65 rollers, I have plenty of piston to valve clearance.
Heads have TA's stainless big valves in 'em, port work, bowl work, blah, blah, blah, You know the drill:)
Intake is TA's Stage 1, Carb is Holley 750 vac. secondary
Best advice I can to anybody is to try to achieve near zero deck height! It does the engine good, It increases compression the right way, increases the quench area, and helps deter detonation.
Im able to rum 92 to 94 octane with no problems, 'course the 310 cam helps with that.
If I had a smaller cam, I'd probably have detonation issues, remember, Match the cam to the compression, and the rpm range you intend to run the engine.
My combo, with the 3.42 rear, 2500 stall in the turbo 350 idles fine at 700 to 800rpm in gear, 900 out, and pulls like a mother, all the way to 6200rpm.
    Car weight is 3780 lbs
I cant floor it from idle, it gets sideways all the way thru 2nd gear:grin:
    Hope this helps, Mark

Havent made it to the track yet:mad: We (girlfriend and I) were wanting to go to Norwalk and flog it a bit this year, along with the GN. She's originally from Norwalk so we are there a few times a month anyway (only an hour ride) but as life goes, before you know it, its fall and its time to rake the damn leaves put stuff away and you realize you didnt do half the things yah wanted:confused:
I would like to take it dynotek here locally and have it chassis dynoed, they did my GN at the Cleveland Auto Rama 2 years in a row, THAT was fun, 376 rwhp and 519 ft lbs at 19 lbs boost:beer Mark
