How appropriate is this?

    Quote from a feature scouring ads across Canada for convertibles under $5000 on a '69 Electra 225:

    "Imagine a toilet full of fuel flushing to picture your gas mileage on full throttle."

    :grin::grin:

    Calculated my highway mileage in Big Red at 14 MPG...seems an appropriate description!

    when driving my Electra back from Nevada, I averaged 12 mpg driving across the desert at about 75 mph, and then averaged 15mpg driving up through, over and down the mountains at a slower 60-65 mph. I'd say that's an apt description at WOT

    Yeah, that pretty much describes what happens at WOT. You can actually watch the needle on the gas gauge drop...Used to take the Electra from here to the coast, but with gas being as expensive as it is out there, it's staying home. There also were some questions about the sanity of throwing a 50 year old car through the Rockies over the "Coke" at some ridiculous speed...

    And they just announced this morning the speed limit on the "Coke" is going up to 120 km/h (75 mph)!

    ...And it's about time too. One thing I'll have to give the BC government; they're more progressive in some respects - they promised they'd take the toll off the Coquihalla once it was paid for, which they did;.... unfortunately for me it was 2 days after I drove on it. Now they're finally raising the limit on it, while it's still not enough for the traffic on it, 120 is better than 100 or the piddly little 90 that it still is on some sections of the Yellowhead or on any other road in the Interior.

    Still; - the gas price is too high for me to consider driving the convertible to the coast this year, plus there's the issue of not being able to find anything for parts in a pinch. I'm going to miss it, because the scenery is absolutely fabulous. For those who haven't done it, you should; the mountains should be experienced "top-down", the experience will blow you away.

    This post made me think of this...
    Shows the fuel used at idle and WOT on one cylinder
    Imagine all 8 cylinders !

    Just took 'Big Red' from Calgary to Vernon for a show there...and had some pretty nervous times trying to stretch 25 gallons from Calgary to Revelstoke.....maaaaaybe coulda gone 20-30 more miles but it was too close for comfort. Ran the numbers and came out with 11 MPG!
    Heading to the coast to see the family this weekend and sadly, leaving the Wildcat home. Much as I'd love the run and as smooth as it's running....it'd be cheaper to fly. Sigh.
