Greetings from Ohio...the only place where you can get all four seasons in one day.
I have a '72 Skylark, and recently I have noticed my "hot" idiot light flickering on & off. After crapping my pants the first time I saw it (and checking the coolant) I know the engine isn't overheating. I have also recently noticed that the light tends to come on when I apply the brake, but not always.
Sound like a short...faulty sensor on the manifold...something else?
Of course, that manifold sesnor has to be directly under the AC compressor, so it looks like to change the sensor, I'll have to tear out the ac.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

i had a similar problem on my 70 chevelle that i owned new from 70-74 . turned out to be the wire from the temperature sensor touching the manifold & grounding out . repositioned the wire & all was well . i would also check the underdash grounds .

That's what I was afraid of...looks like I'll have to take my ac out to get to it.

I don't think you need to tear out your A/C to change that sensor. I don't get how the compressor could even be in the way, unless its adjusted all the way up maybe? Then just loosen the adjusting bolts, slip the belt off and push the compressor out and away. Then all you should need is a big socket and 1/2" ratchet.

Food for thought... try disconnecting the sender and see if the light still flashes. If not I have frequently seen these senders change their calibration w/ age. If the light still flashes, the wiring or dash is the problem. Ray

    Other end

Have a look at the ground wire for the tailights. If that's faulty it'll cause funky things to happen to the dash lights.
