im running a 74 800 q jet. with a divorced choke. its on an otherwise stock 76 455. THe 455 intake manifold doesnt seem to have a well on the passenger side to put the divorced choke in. in the spot where it would be is what looks like a pre-heater, possibly for a hot air choke? since theres no whwere for a divorced choke on the intake i mounted an integral choke i got at a swap meet, but now the problem is that there is that there is no where to mount the air flap pull off for my secondaries. has anyone dealt with this? the carb i got he choke off of has a seperate bracket for the pull off, but id have to drill and tap the carb to mount it. o No: o No:
Joe, I'm sure the 76 Q-jet that came on your 455 originally had an integral choke set up that used a hot air tube.. I don't think you can mount a divorced type choke on that manifold, and get it to work effectively. I personally, don't use a choke at all. With a jetted Q-jet, you don't really need it especially in the Spring and Summer. In the cold weather, it takes more to get the engine started, but I don't drive it that often in the cold weather. If you have a daily driver there, you might want to look around for a 73-74 4 bbl intake. The Edelbrock Aluminum Performer can be run with a Chebby style choke if you want to go that route. Either way, you're looking at replacing the intake. Good luck.
thanks larry, i try and drive the car every day, and with this cold winter i def need a choke. right now ive been setting it myself before i start the car and it works, but i dont wanna have to open the hood every time i start it. Later in the spring im going to put my 67 intake and 67 heads on the 455, so i should be all set for the orig style choke.
