Can Someone Share With Me The Color And Type Of Hose Clamps That Go On My 1971 Non Ac/non Ca Automatic Gs. I Know That Tower Type Clamps Were Used For Upper And Lower Radiator But How About Heater Hoses. What Color Pinch Clamps Were Used On The Charcoal Canister Etc. I Have Red, Yellow, Black And Green Pinch Clamps . Is There A Resource I Can Refer To? Any Help Is Aprreciated. Mike

Heater hoses it depends which factory it came from, some used tower clamps others used the wire type. The pinch clamps are color coded to sizes red = 1/4", yellow =5/16", green =3/8", black = ??? (going by memory here). Some cars used those style clamps for the coolant bypass hose as well. you need an assembly manual to properly spec out your car.

BTW, putting caps on every single word is hard to read.

    Hope that helps.

I agree with Tim above- get yourself an assembly manual. It sounds like if you're worried about hose clamp color you're going to have a whole lotta other questions on correctness. The assembly manual is your friend. The tower clamps, for example, were mounted on an angle- that's info you'll find in the assembly manual. It's a cheap investment and whatever questions you have or clarifications you need beyond the manual I'm sure will be gladly answered here.:TU:

Thanks guys for the info. You are correct, a manual is in order. I also found a thread dated some time ago that provides some info. The car is a Framingham car. Does anyone know if the heater hose clamps were tower type or pinch style from this plant?

I am your hose clamp source. I am now offering complete kits for specific plants and years. I also live in Mass. I have researched all the clamps. Framingham cars used all towers on the heater hoses and not wire type. 71 did not use any clamps on the charcoal cannister lines according to the assembly manual although some may have had them. In 72 they did use them on the can.. I may be able to seel the kit cheaper than if you did it yourself. I coul also sell you a partial.

Mike, the yellow clamps were only used back at fuel tank and vent connections. The green were used on the fuel feed lines except at the tank which were yellow. The fuel returns were red. Black was used on the brake vacuum hose however beware there are several size black pinch clamps. A bigger pich was used on the waterpump bypass hose.

Also there is a problem with looking at the assembly manual for clamp info. They only give part numbers and not colors. To tell them apart you need the Rosetta Stone of hose clamps. I figured it out by taking lots of originals apart and looking at low mileage cars. They also show diagrams in the manuals of the cooling system and in the diagrams show a Flint car. They give part numbers for Flint and GMAD(Framingham Etc) as well but if you do not know what the part number it refered to looks like you would assume it may be a similair wire pinch type clamp as shown and not know it was a tower.
