Hey Guys.I have been ironing out some bugs this spring from my 462 engine swap last fall.I have a set of Hooker Super Comp 2.0 inch headers on my GS.The #7 and #8 rear tubes are a over the frame slip fit to the collectors.Anyone have any ideas about curing the leak at this fitting??Clamps look a bit hack!! Thanks,Tony.

    northcorner Guess what I'm thinking..

i thought i'd get this back to the top for you tony. i have the hooker headers and have the same problem. i'm hoping someone will enlighten us both on this.

I ran them on my engine last year. Had them HPC coated,my worry was that the tube would get stuck. I actually used a little antiseeze on the tubes. Never had a problem with them leaking. Maybe it was the coating that made them snug. Photo below.

Now I'm searching for a set of 2 1/8th headers. Rob Chilenski just made up a set similar to the hooker headers where the tube goes over the frame. No doubt I'll have to bribe him to make me up a set or maybe I can get his first set off his car:Brow:

With Rob's headers unlike Hooker Headers, the last tube is one seperate piece, where as with the Hooker Headers you have the slip tube.

Dave and Rick.My Hookers were ceramic coated also. Since my posting I gave in to the old way of clamping them with 2.0 clamps.
But before I did I spread some muffler cement into the slip fittings.I tucked the clamps sideways with the saddle/nuts facing the sides of the car so they would be less visible from below.A shot of Hi heat black paint and at a quick glance they are not noticeable. At this point they don`t seem to be leaking. Later,Tony.

    Just a thought.

With my Hookers I had an evacuation system installed and ran with exhaust open. Maybe with the evac system it forces the exhaust out correctly. And without the evac system, with a restrictive exhaust (mufflers) it causes back pressure into the headers thus finding that slip tube and leaking out.

I know though for a fact if you run an evac system and then installed a restrictive muffler (Not the high dollar race ones) the back pressure will cause severe oil leaks through out the engine. This happened with me one year when I had to run exhaust and I installed these old cheesy Thrush Mufflers. I made two passes smoking out the track, oil was leaking from the covers, oil pan and pump and seals. John Massoud who was there told me it was the back pressure going up into the evac lines into the engine building pressure inside the engine. The next day when we could run open, I pitched the mufflers and the problem was gone completely. Then after getting beat up by Doug Hecker (loves to spend my money)for running those old mufflers, I bucked up for the high dollar low restrictive race mufflers and the back pressure problem was history. So maybe if you are running a full exhaust it will help to use a low restrictive muffler and some big pipes to reduce the back pressure.

Anyway once my new engine gets completed (very soon I hope) we are going to dyno it with the Hookers and then with Stage One Auto's 2 1/8" headers. If Rob's headers improve the HP (which most likely it will) he may have a hard time getting them back:Brow: and I'll have a set of Hookers I can sell real cheap.

Go to a desiel parts dept. have them look for a slip sleeve type clamp. Looks better and give you alittle more room.
