Im getting some sticky tires for my 83 Regal in my sig. Its going to have a mostly stock 430 engine along with a turbo 350 and a spooled 7.5 with 3.42s. Im either going to use Hoosier DOTs or ET streets depending on which are cheaper and I dont know whether to use 14"rims or 15s. Logic tells me to use the 14s for a better hook because of more sidewall, but I hardly ever see anyone running slicks on 14" rims. Is there a reason or do most people just like the look of the 15"s? The tires will be 26"s to keep a stock appearence. BTW, this thing should weigh about 3200lbs when Im done with it. ________ EmilySex
I think most people go to a 15" tire because they have the most selection, i still use a 14" rim on my 67' GS400. For track use i run a Hoosier Quick Time Pro in 26x9.50-14 on a 6" stock steel rim, no problems here. Only run as much tire as you need, some will put a big stall converter behind a BB Buick with some gear in it only to find they need a bigger tire to hook all that torque up. A big block has a lot of torque so use it to your advantage, my time below are shifting at 5200rpm's BTW.
The larger the tire diameter, the larger the contact patch you will have. You will also have a much larger tire selection with the 15" rims. I definitely would not go with the 14" if you don't have to.
i might use a 14" tire just purely because of centrifigal weight. some might argue that the diff is neglegeble, but every little bit helps. i used 26" tires on my z24 then i went to a 15" and gained .03 sec so if you go from 15 -14 then the same should apply. the same rule applies when selectin flywheels. smaller is easier to turn.
