Hood Scoops, Power or Miles Per Hour?

I need to know some specs on hood scoops and if they help performance by allowing cold air to enter the engine compartment or if they ruin performance by hurting aerodynamics?
I see all the big block cars have either a hood scoop,(Doug Hecker, Gary Paine, John Csordas, John Massoud), a ram air hood,(John Stevens) or some cars with a cowl induction hood. Some Regal guys will put the GNX fender louvers on the car to allow heat to be released from the compartment. Does this help as well? Anyone with info post back.

I put one on my Apollo for the simple reason that the inches I gave myself there are the only inches air has to move in my engine compartment. I also think that if you can't keep the fuel/carb cool enough you will cause fuel atomization problems, so it could be both for cooler running and power.

I have never seen a good cold air set-up that did not help performance. The cooler the air you can get into the carb, the denser that air will be a thus make more horsepower. If there are any aerodynmic losses due to a hood scoop, they are far outweighed by the performance advantage of the cooler air charge. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

I seem to remember reading here somewhere that you can pick up about .2 with a Stage 2 scoop. Don't remember how much faster it makes the car, probalby 3-4 mph or so.

Phil I think they said in the range of 2.5 to 3 tenths

    hood scoop

    Heres an example:
2 weeks ago we took my son Dougs car"Painekiller" to the track, he has a stage 2 scoop, and forgot the under hood plate and foam seal. The car slowed down .15 and over 1mph,the following week we put the plate back in and the car picked back up where its supposed to be ,same weather conditions.Obviously, with no plate even with a scoop it was picking up hot under hood air and also not getting full advantage of the ram air effect on the top end.

The Stage 2 scoops are cool but does anyone know the effects of a dragster scoop like the one on Great Scat. Anyone know of the effects of a hood like on John Stevens big block regal. Also .2 off the timeslip is amazing.

I LEFT A REPLY ON THREAD 'HOOD SCOOP POWER, HOW MUCH?' PAGE 7, MIGHT BE HELPFUL. TOO MUCH TO RETYPE. GOOD LUCK
