Im'looking for a set of hood hinges and springs for my 1955 century. My question is ,are the 1954-55-56 hinges interchangeable? One book says yes, while another said no. buckeye
My guess is that the Special and Century hinges for those years will all interchange. I am not sure that the Super and Roadmaster are the same.
Buckeye I have a 56 Special with a spring as part of the hinge assembly. I have seen a 55 Special with the hinge separate to the spring, like the attched 54 Buick picture. Sorry for the poor quality. You may need to dig deeper to find when they changed. Ross
John my first inclination was to agree with you. Until I saw these pictures............ My Roadmaster's are like the springs you show of the '54 (your 1st picture). Here is a picture of a '56 Super , (it looks like your second picture)
With a handle like "Buckeye" I assume you are in the Great State of Ohio, if so, there is a a salvage yard near Mt. Sterling that has a couple of these setting there, mostly complete. Warner's Salvage.
After thinking about it for a bit, I do remember that there was a difference between '55 and '56. Fisher body was pretty sharp about model changes though. I wonder if the more compact '56 hinge could be adapted by removing the angled plate that actually bolts to the hood? It would be interesting to research.
Found my hood hinges at www.classicbuick.com. I was told that they will fit all 54-55& 56 buick ( special/century/roadmaster They are reworked, aligned and adjusted They also come with the correct tension springs. ALL USA MADE . They are not cheap, I paid $199.00. Buckeye ( from Colorado ) ?
