Today i installed a Holley 4175 on my 79 Pontiac Bonneville, which has a Buick 350 in it. I had a Q-jet on it but the throttle shaft was getting worn out and was getting stuck and idling a little to high. I took the Bonnie on the freeway and when i stomp on the gas to pass someone, i don't feel the secondaries kicking in like i did on the Q-jet. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas to help me out? Thanks.

If the Q jet is set up correctly you should not feel the same surge. This is normal.

If that carburetor has vacuum secondaries, I would try adjusting those. There are spring kits that allow you to tune the opening rate of the secondaries. Tune them to open sooner until you get a bog, then back up. Here is a thread I found on the 4175:

I am with Jim on this one,,, the secondaries should not be detectable under normal conditions... that is to say that they should come in so smoothly that you get one smooth flow of power....they dont just flop open like a mechanical set up... as the engine ''needs'' the extra fuel , the vac signal brings in the back butterflys.....

ok, i i put in the new spring today, a softer one. and it seemed to have helped. But now im beginning to wonder if i should adjust the kickdown cable, because when i would stomp it, it felt like it dropped down a gear and it would go. Now it just slowly climbs up.
